JO KOY: IT’S NOT THE END OF THE WORLD

They say every dark cloud has a silver lining and standup comic turned Golden Globes MC, Jo Koy may have just found his. Nice guy Jo bombed as a first time host of the revamped Golden Globe awards. We felt bad as his jokes fall flat and the celebrities in the audience didn’t do a good job of hiding their disappointment. Our source at the show revealed that there were barely any laughs during Jo’s opening monologue but there was plenty of eye rolling. The only good thing to come out of this fiasco was that Jo’s ex, fellow comic Chelsea Handler reached out to him to offer words of support. The two haven’t had much contact since their surprise breakup in July 2022, but Chelsea wanted to comfort Jo, so she called him after the telecast to boost his spirits.

MARGOT ROBBIE IS UP TO HERE WITH BARBIE PINK

Margot Robbie is fed up with dressing like a doll. The Barbie star has appeared at countless promotional events dressed in some of Barbie’s most iconic costumes, and as we reported in July, she negotiated to KEEP all of the outfits and plans to auction them off for charity later. Margot showed up at The Golden Globes dressed in a pink sequined gown, which duplicated an iconic Barbie look, but she didn’t win the best actress award as many predicted. Margot is still hoping to get nominated for an Academy Award for the role but she’s already telling friends if she DOES score an Oscar nomination, she doesn’t want to show up to that event looking like Barbie. Our source explained that Margot is grateful for her film’s success, but now feels the gimmick has gotten stale and she wants her own style back. Can’t blame her…

TABLE TALK AT THE GOLDEN GLOBES: OZEMPIC

Move over Oppenheimer and beat it Barbie, (not to mention Taylor Swift and Timothee and Kylie) the TALK of this year’s Golden Globes was OZEMPIC! According to our spy who attended the Globes, most of the table chatter wasn’t about the movies or performances, but about everyone’s experiences with the miracle weight loss drug that seems to have taken over Hollywood. While a few guests, like Oprah Winfrey, have publicly copped to taking the medication, many of those attendance felt comfortable enough to exchange info about their personal journey. To no one’s surprise, our spy also revealed that the majority of the food served at the ceremony seemed to go UNTOUCHED!

ELVIS MADE AUSTIN BUTLER A STAR

Austin Butler looks like the perfect gentleman escorting former Scientologist Lisa Marie Presley to the Golden Globes Elvis birthday party (born Jan 8) at The Formosa in Hollywood. Lisa Marie was bedazzled by Austin’s performance in the Elvis movie. She said it’s the first time she and her children and future grandchildren can be proud because Elvis is portrayed as a decent and caring person in the film. The Golden Globes had their usual round of parties before the award show in hopes they can regain respect with new HFPA rules and members. Not to mention a black, openly gay host – the adorable Jerrod Carmichael...

ANYA TAYLOR-JOY’S GAMBIT

Anya Taylor-Joy is constantly being “discovered.” At 16, the was discovered by a modeling agent while shopping, and started a career on the runway. A talent agent spotted her modeling, and introduced her to acting. Now she’s 24 and has appeared in a lot of films (she played Barack Obama’s college girlfriend in the film Barry) but in America, WE discovered her during the pandemic. She played the chess prodigy in the Netflix series The Queen’s Gambit, and had everybody talking about her. She turned up at The Golden Globes, The SAG Awards and The Critics Choice Awards – looking impossibly glamorous – and she won. Today she was back to modeling in the streets of New York- filming segments for Tiffany ads with a male model – and no doubt earning a LOT more than she did when she started her career…

JOAQUIN PHOENIX: FIRST PRESENTER IN A BLACK HOODY

Could NOT take our eyes off of Joaquin Phoenix when he walked onstage at The Golden Globes. He was last year’s Best Actor winner for Joker, so his was an important appearance as a presenter. Phoenix sauntered onstage smirking, clad in sneakers, jeans, and a black hoody. They only thing that separated him from looking like a robber at a 7-Eleven was a skinny black tie. (Being ONSTAGE is not the same as on video at home) The Golden Globes show has strict fashion rules for everyone involved – even for the PRESS, who usually stand outside in front of the Beverly Hilton Hotel and are not on camera. It’s black tie for men (tuxedos) and evening dresses for women or you are sent home. Yes, Joaquin had a black tie, but would a woman have gotten away with this outfit onstage? We remember a few years ago when a gown-clad woman was BANNED from a red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival for not wearing HIGH HEELS! IF the pandemic has actually softened fashion rules, designers will be devastated…

GOLDEN GLOBES VIP GIFT BAGS: NOT SO FANCY THIS YEAR

Things will be different at the Golden Globes this year and that includes the legendary gifting suites. During the week before the event, VIP gifting suites are generally set up in various hotels near Beverly Hills. Nominees and celebrities involved in the award show are invited to claim gift bags full of products and gift certificates. The bags might contain tickets for a Hawaiian vacation, certificates for massages, rejuvenation procedures and botox treatments, skincare treatments, expensive perfume and wine, small kitchen appliances, designer leather goods and sunglasses, a cashmere throw, even cannabis products. But this year is not the same- VIP’s are invited to pull up in front of places like the Luxe Hotel on Sunset and someone wearing a mask and gloves will hand them a bag, but the gifts are not as extravagant – most likely popcorn, fancy masks, candy, cosmetic samples, kitchen tools, etc. Big companies that donate prefer a PERSONAL connection with the celebrities…maybe next year…

NOT TO BE OVERLOOKED: SANDRA BULLOCK

For some reason, Sandra Bullock did not walk the red carpet at the Golden Globes so she didn’t get as much fashion attention as some others. But she should have flaunted this very beautiful and tasteful dress. The marigold color is lush and – thank heavens – it’s not that same old low cut neckline with a slit and a leg sticking out, that we see over and over again! Her chain jewelry is also a nice subtle touch – it’s very cool but not flashy or gaudy.

KATE BECKINSALE MADE UP FOR A LOT OF BAD GOLDEN GLOBES FASHION

We all pretty much agree on who was Worst Dressed at the Golden Globes. Why no one told Globe winner Patricia Arquette NOT to leave the house in that gross and desperate looking low cut dress is a mystery. If she HAS a stylist (and we doubt it) -that stylist should be fired immediately. Too bad her memorable stage moment will forever be a visual turn-off. On the OTHER hand, we’re not sure if Kate Beckinsale was at the award show or just the Amazon after-party, but we absolutely LOVE her party outfit. It’s original and fun – and SO photogenic!

JANELLE MONAE DOES IT AGAIN

Sorry, but whenever Janelle Monae shows up for a red carpet event, she is hands down, on the Best Dressed list for us. Frankly, if we never see another low cut gown with a slit skirt and a leg sticking out, we will be SO HAPPY! As usual, Janelle avoided all the clichés and layered an Egyptian inspired Chanel dress over a white knit one for The Golden Globes. As always, creative hair and an unusual hat. Flawless and original.
