KEVIN FEDERLINE: DESIGNATED BABYSITTER
Kevin Federline had planned to attend the Soul Train Awards last weekend but at the last minute he told his friends he couldn’t make it. Why? Because he’s having “nanny problems.” Apparently Kevin didn’t have enough faith in his new nanny to leave the kids alone with her for the length of an award show. So he missed the awards and all the after-parties where he loves to network. His friends weren’t surprised – they say Kevin has cut back on clubbing and now he only likes to go out when it involves making money.
Kelly Ripa likes to dress her men alike. Especially on vacation. She went to the high-end men’s swimwear store, Vivebrequin on Rodeo Drive, to find “father and sons” bathing suits for her husband Mark Consuelos and their two sons Michael 9 and Joachin, 4. The store is famous for quick-dry expensive St Tropez bathing suits for men and boys in summery prints. Kelly looked at everything and finally selected matching suits in the SAME tropical print for her three guys -$115 each for the boys and $165 for Mark’s suit. Now they’ll be easy to spot on the beach.
If you’re going to the movies and Wild Hogs isn’t your thing – we suggest “The Namesake.” It’s a fascinating, human story about a newlywed couple from India who move to New York City to start a new life. The shock of the change to a cold, grey, lonely city makes the viewer understand the difficulties of being an immigrant. The couple has children and eventually assimilate, moving to the suburbs. Their Americanized son and daughter present a whole new set of problems. Kal Penn of “Harold and Kumar go to White Castle” is particularly endearing and entertaining as their teenage son who hates his foreign-sounding name. It’s an epic story following generations of likeable people and their customs, and you walk out feeling like you just read a good book.

Colin Farrell is up to his old tricks. He and his exgirlfriend Kim Bordenave and their toddler son James stopped at In-N-Out Burger in Hollywood. They pulled up to the drive-thru and Colin ordered their food to go. An hour later he returned WITHOUT Kim and smooth operator Colin asked the drive-thru girl who took his order out on a date! The 18 year old HOT HOT HOT Latina didn’t hesitate. She said yes and they hooked up that night after work!
If you want to see what eighties fashion REALLY looked like, as worn by the hip downtown crowd in Manhattan, dash over to the Stephen Cohen Gallery on Beverly Boulevard. What a rush of memories! See the big versions of the brilliant Amy Arbus photographs included in her book “On the Street 1980-1990.” You’ll be transported to this fabulous period of time. Thrift shop clothes were mixed with designer pieces, punk, S&M, rockabilly, mountainous sprayed Flock of Seagulls hairdos- it’s all there. Along with some of the great characters of the era, nonchalantly wearing the styles – Madonna, Joey Arias, Katy K, and John Sex, to name a few. Young Madonna in her stained men’s overcoat and peculiar shoes with a jaunty scarf- we loved her then. These classic photos are a great investment – at the very least get the book.
Don’t know about you, but we were devastated when our favorite contestant Malan Breton was eliminated on Project Runway season 3. Remember- he was the foppish fellow with the unusual accent (Hong Kong?) and the devilish laugh. We had met him for the first time years before the show, when he was a young boy working in the women’s designer department in Barneys New York. He already dressed like a 1930’s actor. And he had that unique, vaguely foreign personality and sense of fun – not to mention an appreciation of our then – favorite designer Martin Margiela. Happily, the Runway detour propelled him into the bigtime. He has had two showings at NY’s Fashion Week -Spring and Fall 2007. He also has his own store in New York and is opening another in Shanghai next year. So getting kicked off Project Runway might have been the best thing that ever happened to him!
