Katharine McPhee, who convinced us that she is not a scientologist, had lunch on the patio at Urth CafĂ© and couldn’t resist making eyes at a cute dog sitting nearby. The pooch ambled over and was rewarded with a big kiss.
When CSI: Miami’s Eva LaRue walked into Saks Fifth Avenue in Beverly Hills, she noticed some paparazzi lurking outside. She figured someone like Paris Hilton was inside shopping. Eva browsed in the shoe department and drifted over to handbags where she found just what she wanted. She bought a purse and was headed back to shoes when a man in a suit introduced himself as store security. He explained “Photographers are following you all over, outside the store windows and using telephoto lenses. It’s created a commotion in the shoe department and customers are disturbed and complaining. Can I escort you to your car?” Eva was perplexed, but the man was polite and she cooperated by leaving – WITHOUT getting the shoes she wanted. It sounds odd, but she was sort of KICKED OUT of Saks. Her PR confirmed the story.

We hope Whitney Houston isn’t sitting home waiting for he phone to ring, because her sometime date Ray J is keeping himself too busy to dial. We love this photo of him leaving a party at the Sunset Tower Hotel last week – he has Brandy and Lil’ Kim in the back seat of somebody’s car. He and Kim claim they’re just friends but we have our doubts. Anyway, we are amused by the fact that they took a CENTERPIECE home with them!
Our wish has been granted. We’ve been thinking about who we’d like to add to the list of particpiants on the new VH1 show Celebs in Rehab that we told you about. Joanie “Chyna Doll” Laurer, Andy Dick, Jeff Conaway, and The Real World’s Puck are already lined up. We had been hoping for Daniel Baldwin – and we just heard our FAVORITE drug abuser has been recruited! Along with the pornstar who ran for governor in California, Mary Carey, and the child star Jamiee Foxworth (she played the kid sister on Family Matters) who confessed to Oprah that booze and drugs led HER to porn too. We also hear that Andy Dick may back out of doing the show.
We hear that Tom Cruise and Katie are very happy with their new house but Tom was not so thrilled about the fact that the previous owners got a divorce. He doesn’t want anything like that to happen to HIS marriage, so Tom called in the Scientologists. He had them sweep the place of any leftover bad vibes and clear out any clinging negative spirits. Special flowers were planted in the garden. Maybe this hocus pocus is L Ron Hubbard’s version of feng shui.

Mark Wahlberg and Rhea Durham are still happily unmarried – he’s definitely happier about it than she is. He took her to lunch at Judy’s Deli in Beverly Hills – and yes, we notice a trend. They’re carrying home half of her meal – THAT, dear readers is one of the big diet secrets of skinny Beverly Hills women. Order sensibly and take half your food home. Call it The Doggie Bag Diet.

It’s ABOUT time! The female stars of Friends are always having get-togethers – especially at Il Sole. But it seems like Lisa Kudrow is never included – it’s just Jen and Courteney all the time. So it’s really nice to see Lisa out with Courteney, catching up on all the news. We like to think the girls from the show really ARE friends. Note that Courteney is taking half of her food home. We think Lisa looks pretty, but was better dressed when she was on the show- she looks a little “momish” here.

Pete Wentz, a confessed Star Wars geek, stopped at the Union 76 gas station in West Hollywood and couldn’t resist picking up a couple of DVD’s. We strained to see the titles – one was a “suspense thriller” and the other was Disney’s new digitally remastered version of Tron. The gas station guy eating his lunch looks puzzled by the attention Pete’s attracting. Maybe Pete will surprise his girlfriend Ashlee Simpson with a movie night at home.

We love this photo of Paris Hilton nodding in the back seat of a taxi as it pulls up to her house at 5 AM this morning. She just returned from partying at the Sunset Tower Hotel. (She must have been desperate for a ride – those cabs are pretty smelly, especially in the summer.) We just heard the funniest story about her. Paris often calls makeup artists to do house calls. It seems more than one makeup person in this town now refuses to work for Paris because she expected them to do her makeup while she was STILL SLEEPING! True story. They were told to apply her foundation, blush, and lips while she was still flat on her back. Eventually she dragged herself out of bed to have her eyes done. SOME makeup artists objected. Guess that’s what happens when you stay out so late.
