Long Time No See

FRAN DRESCHER IS BACK IN ACTION

Fran “The Nanny” Drescher is looking adorable at the Tribeca Film Festival and she’s happy to be working again. She’s promoting her movie Safe Spaces – she plays Justin Long’s Jewish mother and he plays an NYU professor having MeToo era problems at work. Fran ALSO has a new comedy for NBC called Uninsured in which a young couple find themselves having to guide the husbands bigspender parents through a financial crisis. Fran has become quite a women’s health activist since she survived cancer. Married twice, Fran is now single, but admits she does some “online dating…”

COSTAS MANDYLOR: LONG TIME NO SEE

Australian born Costas Mandylor was a pretty boy when he started out in Hollywood and he was one of People magazine’s 50 Most Beautiful People in 1991 (photo below) That year he starred in Mobsters with two other pretty boys, Patrick Dempsey, and Christian Slater. Nowadays he usually plays tough guys, but he seems to be constantly working and always has a bunch of movies coming out.

SANDRA BERNHARD IS MORE THAN A STAND-UP COMIC

Sandra Bernhard performed her one-woman show at Ronnie Scott’s jazz club in London as part of her world tour. She has an amusing act – her observational comedy is smart and she doesn’t hesitate to make fun of everyone. You might remember her close friendship with Madonna a few years back. When Madonna for some reason quit being her friend, Sandra started telling some funny stories about their time together. (No, they never had a romance.) Now Sandra sings with her own band and puts on a very entertaining club act. Did you know she also has a 20 year old daughter Cicely?

PATTIE BOYD WAS IDOLIZED BY MUSIC GROUPIES IN THE ’60s

Here’s a face we haven’t seen in awhile – it’s Pattie Boyd – she was the gorgeous “It Girl” that everybody wanted to BE in the trendy and tumultuous 1960’s. Pattie worked in a hair salon and modeled in London when she was cast as a schoolgirl in the Beatles movie “A Hard Day’s Night” and her life changed forever. She ended up marrying George Harrison and later fell for and married George’s friend Eric Clapton. Eventually that marriage dissolved due to his drinking and cheating, but apparently there are no hard feelings. Pattie, 73, showed up for the London premier of Showtime’s documentary “Eric Clapton: Life in 12 Bars.”

LONG TIME NO SEE: ENGELBERT HUMPERDINCK

We remember when Engelbert Humperdinck was a fixture in Las Vegas, and now that he’s 81, the Release Me singer is still appearing there as well as touring all the time! Incredibly, he’s been married to his wife Patricia since 1964, but she can no longer go on the road with him because she has Alzheimer’s. Engelbert recently released a new album The Man I Want to Be – dedicated to his wife. Occasionally his 9 year old granddaughter from Nashville appears onstage with Engelbert, and he’s convinced she will someday be a huge pop star.

HEY, RYAN GOSLING: WHATEVER HAPPENED TO EVA MENDES?

Well, HERE’S a couple you’re lucky to see once every six months. Six years and two kids after they first met, Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes are rarely seen together in public. And Eva seems to have given up her acting career – the last time she worked was in 2013 in The Place Beyond the Pines, directed by Ryan. While Ryan continues to make movies right and left, Eva has worked on her fashion collection for NY&C, but basically been a stay at home mom, as far a we know…

KENNY LOGGINS STILL KNOWS HOW TO CUT LOOSE

Never paid all that much attention to Kenny Loggins of Loggins & Messina, but the 69 year old singer/songwriter performed in New York recently and he looks darn good. We didn’t realize he’s made a fortune by doing movie soundtracks for films like Top Gun and Footloose. In fact, he earned the title King of the Movie Soundtrack – not a bad way to make a living!

LONG TIME NO SEE: WHITE HOUSE PROVOCATEUR MONICA LEWINSKY

In 1998, Monica Lewinsky, now 44, was one of the most famous people in the world, yet she wasn’t able to parlay her fame into a profitable career. It turned out she wasn’t as innocent as she claimed – Monica had an affair with her married high school drama teacher before Bill Clinton. And Hillary Clinton’s condemnation of Monica instead of her husband has left a black mark on her own character. Bad decisions all. Today Monica is still single and says she has a hard time getting a job although she is educated. She devotes a lot of time speaking out against online bullying. For some reason, we have a hard time feeling sorry for her…

RIGHT SAID FRED BROTHERS ARE STILL TOO SEXY FOR THEIR SHIRTS

Who didn’t love that Right Said Fred song back in the ‘90s “I’m Too Sexy?” English brothers Fred and Richard Fairbrass were both musicians who spent far too much time working out. (Gym queens?) However it inspired this popular and hilarious song that probably made them a ton of money over the years in movies and commercials. The musclebound brothers are touring again with a new album called “Exactly.”

LONG TIME NO SEE: JACQUELINE BISSET

One of our all-time favorites, Jacqueline Bisset, walked the red carpet in Cannes to promote her new movie L’ Amant Double. She speaks fluent French and seems to do more films in France than the US these days. She was the object of many male fantasies, and through the years we documented her long-term romances, but she was never interested in marriage. “Too independent.”
