Alysa Liu has become America’s newest sweetheart – thanks to her unexpected and completely original gold medal winning figure skating performance at the Olympics. Her striped hair and routine to Donna Summer’s MacArthur Park captivated audiences, and the judges easily boosted her to the top of the podium. Her story is as remarkable as her performance: she was conceived through IVF and raised by a single dad. She all but retired from skating when she was 16-years-old, only to decide to return a few years later on her terms. Now Alyssa is being bombarded with endorsement deals, TV appearances, and there’s even a movie in the works about her life. If that wasn’t enough – Saturday Night Live wants her to guest host ASAP. If the timing can be worked out, expect to see her on the show within weeks ( if not as a host, then very likely as a guest appearance).

Have some dignity
She’s part raccoon.

She performed incredibly and deserved the gold medal and should get credit for updating that stodgy sport. Her hair was original and adorable
Sloane
I love her and how calm and unbothered by everything she seems. I hope good things happen for her…
Hilary Grant
Her routine was extraordinary –and it looked like she was having a great time on the ice as well.
Also, another example of not everyone’s family looks like Leave It To Beaver. In fact, I would guess that most don’t. 🙂

I always love your comments…

Loved her, but speaking of comebacks from retirement: what about the American/Canadian, Deanna Stellato-Dudek, who retired in 2000 from competing, skating and coaching (a clean break), then came back 16 years later? A 42 year old made it to the Olympics…in pairs skating!!! She didn’t medal, but she skated well (in her hand beaded, custom Oscar de la Renta dress) despite losing training time for the 2 weeks prior due to a head injury. The Olympics are full of inspiring stories.

My girls love her because she’s from Oakland and she’s Wasian, just like they are. That pic captures an Oakland girl to a T!! The only thing you can’t see are her fun tooth gems. She’s awesome.

She was allegedly genetically engineered by scientists using crispr in a lab offshore as was Eileen Gu the freestyle skier. It’s both unethical and likely illegal

her dad was a single man who wanted to have a child stop making it sound nefarious
