Right before the Olympic games commenced, there was a secret ceremony in Paris where Tom Cruise received the highest French order of merit: Knight of the Legion of Honor. France’s Minister of Culture, Rachida Dati, presented him with the medal because his 2017 filming of Mission Impossible “showcased our capital.” Tony Ortega of the Underground Bunker speculates that the timing cleverly implied that Tom would attend the games. He did, and Tom was photographed mingling with fans and signing autographs. Ortega points out that France is not at all supportive or welcoming of Tom’s affiliation with Scientology.
