File this under things that make you go hmmm. Michael Patrick King, the showrunner of the now completed And Just Like That, claims that he and star Sarah Jessica Parker knew well in advance that the series would be ending after the just aired third season, but our well placed source connected to the show has some DOUBTS and here’s why. It’s tradition that when a show ends (and isn’t unexpectedly cancelled ) there’s a cast and crew party with the stars usually giving the crew and each other parting gifts. Then the sets are dismantled and souvenirs taken – but in this case there was no party, no gifts exchanged and no set souvenirs. My source adds that the abruptness of it seems off, and speculates that the show suddenly ended because of something else. The source adds perhaps it’s an innocuous as the production costs were too high – or perhaps it’s something more serious like one of the principle actors is ill. Hmmm… will we ever know?
THE ABRUPT ENDING OF AND JUST LIKE THAT

I loved Sex and the City buy not And Just Like That. I’m surprised it lasted 3 seasons.

I think this is rooted in a couple of issues that are all related to the business.
1. Fans tuned in and expected familiar characters and scenarios. It was obviously a huge mistake to change the format minus a major character. There were other characters that fans hated. The reviews and online comments were very strident. Even though celebs say they never read comments…..they do and it’s painful.
2. The network invested and had high expectations to the extent they greenlit two more seasons hoping the show would turn around. It really didn’t.
3. The show legacy and reputation as a franchise was suffering. HBO wasn’t about to give them season 4 so rather then cancel them…..they bowed out quickly ahead of the press frenzy that would have followed.
3. SJP doesn’t need the $$ but she definitely wants the adulation. There is no way she would tolerate a cancellation in her career credits.

SJP is so greedy I wouldn’t be surprised of another ‘reboot’.
