BACK TO REALITY: HELENA BONHAM CARTER AND HER MOTHER

Helena Bonham Carter and her mother arrive back in England after a busy Oscar weekend in Los Angeles. Helena lost to Melissa Leo, but she and her mother Elena, a psychotherapist, had a good time. We’re guessing Helena got a smidgen of her fashion eccentricity from her mother.

THE KING’S SPEECH: LOOKS AREN’T EVERYTHING

When a film deals with real characters, it’s always fun to compare the actors with the people they portrayed. The Hollywood Reporter dug up photos of the stars of “The King’s Speech” and it’s evident the actors weren’t cast with much regard for for their looks – Colin Firth bears scant resemblance to King George VI, Geoffrey Rush isn’t nearly as handsome as speech therapist Lionel Logue, but Helena Bonham Carter DOES manage to look a little like Queen Elizabeth.

COLIN FIRTH: BEFORE HE WAS “KING” HE WAS MEG TILLY’S BOYFRIEND

Colin Firth is all over the place and he’s Best Actor Oscar front runner for “The King’s Speech,” so we were particularly interested to learn that he and actress Meg Tilly (Yes, Jennifer Tilly’s sister) were a couple for six years. Colin and Meg fell in love when they filmed “Valmont” together and they moved into a log cabin in a remote area of Canada. In 1990, they had a son named Will, but Colin couldn’t get an acting job to save his life. All the theater groups in Vancouver turned him down. Meg was happy living in isolation but eventually Colin had to go back to London for work and the relationship ended in 1995.

VANITY FAIR AGREES WITH US ABOUT HELENA BONHAM CARTER

We’re not the least bit surprised that Helena Bonham Carter made Vanity Fair’s 2010 Best Dressed List. Helena, however, was flabbergasted and thought it was a joke. “The King’s Speech” star’s style has often been featured on this site because we find her creative and inspiring. Vanity Fair judges their winners by “individual taste,” not fashion trends and Helena has a one-of-a-kind look. She says her fashion icon is “Marie Antoinette.” LOVE the bloomers!
