The Butler

MOST OVER-RATED AND UNDER-RATED MOVIES OF 2013

RUSH

The LA Times conducted a very interesting poll to find out which movies that moviegoers considered to be the Most Over-rated and the Most Under-rated this year. “Gravity” came out on top as Most Over-rated and we have to agree. We love Sandra Bullock, but the movie was a lot of fuss about almost nothing. “The Butler” came in a close second – viewers considered it overly sentimental. (We did enjoy it, though.)The winner of Most Under-rated (the best movies that few people saw) was “The East” an eco-thriller starring Alexander Skarsgard – sure enough, we don’t know anyone who saw it, but now we will make a point of doing so. Second Most Under-rated was Chris Hemsworth’s racing movie “Rush” which we saw and enjoyed far more than we expected to. Do you agree with this poll?

“THE BUTLER” SOUNDS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE

Wild horses couldn’t keep us from seeing “The Butler.” Reviews are mixed, but we can’t imagine that we won’t find SOMETHING to love about this movie. Hopefully there will be plenty of personal observations and juicy behind-the-scenes details about the private lives of eight presidents and how they reacted to current events. The cast is amazing – we just hope the script lives up to expectations.

ROBIN WILLIAMS PLAYS A PRESIDENT INSTEAD OF A CRACKPOT FOR A CHANGE

Robin Williams, 61, took his wife Susan Schneider, 47, shopping in Soho. Robin married the graphic designer a year ago and she goes wherever he goes. Recently he’s been filming Lee Daniels’ “The Butler “ in New Orleans with Oprah and Forest Whitaker. Robin is playing President Dwight D Eisenhower – maybe that’s why he looks so serious and mature.

OPRAH’S FEET DON’T LIKE VINTAGE SHOES

Ouch! Oprah Winfrey’s feet are rebelling on the set of The Butler, now filming in New Orleans, Louisiana. She wears huge bouffant wigs and appropriate vintage clothing and shoes for her role as the wife of the White House butler played by Forest Whitaker. The movie spans several decades and Oprah has a massive wardrobe with appropriately painful shoes. Even her striped flats were hurting her as she arrived on the set today, so she took them off until the cameras rolled.

THE BUTLER: EIGHT PRESIDENTS AS SEEN THRU THE EYES OF A WHITE HOUSE SERVANT

Everything we hear about Lee Daniels’“The Butler” makes us more eager than ever to see it. It’s based on the epic story of a White House butler who served 8 presidents over three decades, throughout the civil rights era. Forrest Whitaker plays the butler and Oprah Winfrey plays his wife. Minka Kelly (above) was just cast as Jackie Kennedy with Matthew McConaughey as JFK. John Cusack plays Richard Nixon, and Alan Rickman and Jane Fonda were cast as the Reagans. Liam Neeson is up for the part of Lyndon Johnson. It starts shooting this summer. All in all, it sounds historically and politically fascinating.
