JULIETTE LEWIS: WORST DRESSED ONSTAGE?

Like Johnny Depp, Juliette Lewis seems to vastly prefer being a rock star over being a movie star. Both act mainly to pay the bills. Juliette’s singing is WAY better than her onstage fashion however. She usually wear some kind of tacky spandex outfit – not sexy, but oddly unfashionable and unflattering. Lately she’s been singing with a heavy metal band as well as The Licks. We wonder if all the band members are Scientologists like she is. Above, she performed this week at The Linq in Las Vegas.

JAMES JAGGER: SECOND GENERATION ROCKER

James Jagger landed a sweet role in the new HBO untitled “Rock n Roll Project” – it helps when your father Mick is one of the producers. Actually the New York born James, 29, has been modeling and acting for the last 8 or 9 years so he’s not without experience. The 6’1” Jagger (his mother is Jerry Hall) was photographed on the NY set and it looks like his character is stealing a guitar.

BOBBY CANNAVALE AND OLIVIA WILDE: NEW YORK IN THE 70’S

HBO’s upcoming rock n roll series (no title yet) is already looking REALLY good. Martin Scorcese and Mick Jagger are producing and it all takes place in swinging 1970’s New York. Bobby Cannavale plays a record executive searching for the next new sound in the glam rock/disco/punk era. Olivia Wilde (above) looks gorgeous as his model wife. Other cast members include Ray Romano, Andrew Dice Clay and Jack Quaid. (Meg Ryan’s son.)

BACK TO THE 70’S WITH BOBBY CANNAVALE

Bobby Cannavale is one of our favorite actors, and he has a starring role in Martin Scorsese’s untitled rock n roll series for HBO that we told you about. It takes place in the 70’s and we are struck by how authentically attired Bobby is. From the fluffy hair with sideburns to the tight shirt and wide leg pants – he’s got the look. That orangey leather jacket is a color truly from the era. Best of all, he has the dark tan that people used sun reflectors to achieve in those days. He really looks like a guy from Brooklyn in 1972.

HBO’S HISTORY OF ROCK N ROLL IN NEW YORK

AG039304_01martcut

Martin Scorsese is directing what looks to be a VERY interesting series pilot for HBO. It’s an untitled rock n roll project that takes place in 1970’s New York (the Max’s Kansas City era.) Punk and disco were both breaking out and Bobby Cannavale (in the car, above) plays a record executive scrambling to resurrect his label with a new sound. Ray Romano is his outspoken co-worker. Lots of drugs, sex, hot clubs, and gangsters – even some Warhol characters. Mick Jagger is one of the producers and his son James has a role in the series. Andrew Dice Clay plays a bad guy. This was a great time in the city – and young people could actually afford to live there!

DICK CLARK’S AMERICAN BANDSTAND GAVE US OUR FIRST LOOK AT ROCK N ROLL

Our fondest memories of the late Dick Clark were in glorious black and white. His American Bandstand, which was on TV after school every day, rocked everybody’s world. We all heard rock n’ roll on the radio but rarely got a chance to SEE the performers – from Fabian to Conway Twitty to Chubby Checker. (There was no MTV in those days) Clark was a huge influence in the world of rock n’ roll. We learned the latest dance moves watching his show and got ideas for haircuts and fashion. His original TV show from Philadelphia taught kids how to be teenagers. Thanks for the memories Dick Clark!

Update: Love this quote from from the Los Angeles Times: “Dick Clark chaperoned American youth on their first date with rock n roll.”

KESHA HEAD STUDS: NOT AS AGGRESSIVE AS THEY LOOK

Kesha got our attention with her Glamour makeunder a few weeks ago- now she wants her mojo back. After shaving the side of her head, she had over 25 gold studs applied in the area. It LOOKS startling – especially to parents- but actually the studs are quite temporary and harmless. Nothing is punctured or permanent – they are GLUED on and easily removed. Considerably less invasive than a tattoo or piercing. Kesha is getting plenty of cluck for her buck.

KESHA – IS THAT REALLY YOU?

We’re betting that Kesha is being a bit more careful about her photographs since those unfortunate pics of her in a two piece swimsuit circulated last summer. The 24 year old Tik Tok singer likes to construct her eccentric rock n roll image with lots of glitter and face and body paint. In fact, Kesha says she has body painting parties at her Nashville home. And she brags “My makeup is usually left over from the night before.”Glamour magazine talked her into cleaning up for an uncharacteristically feminine photo and it’s quite a makeunder.

PETER FRAMPTON HAS CHANGED A LOT

Peter Frampton did an interview on NPR in which he talked about finding his favorite long-lost guitar. Frampton acquired the Les Paul guitar in 1970 and always used it onstage. In 1980 the band equipment (not the band) was on a plane that crashed in South America. All seemed lost, but somehow the guitar survived and ended up in the Caribbean. Recently, a guitar collector spotted it and contacted Frampton who was thrilled to get it back. The story’s nice, but we can’t get over how much Peter Frampton has CHANGED! Yikes!

KINGSTON ROSSDALE IS FIVE AND ALREADY A SLAVE TO FASHION

Kids who grow up in a rock star family can’t help it – they just might inherit their parents’ ideas about fashion. Kingston Rossdale, 5, already fusses about his hair styles and loves to pick out his own clothes. As a result he looks like an English rock star. His mom Gwen Stefani is a pop star and a successful designer with collections for both adults and kids, so she gives her boys plenty of options. Daddy, Gavin Rossdale, IS an English rock star, so Kingston has no shortage of inspiration. We love his plaid pants with the Chesterfield blazer and vest.
