JOAQUIN PHOENIX HAS MINIMAL VANITY

Now HERE’S an unflattering haircut! Last night Joaquin Phoenix appeared at the New York Film Festival to promote his new film C’mon C’mon, with the top of his head shaved and the sides long and flowing! The movie got good reviews but the haircut did NOT. Today he was seen walking in New York with his fiancé Rooney Mara, who seemed to have no complaints about his unusual style. He looks considerably older than his 46 years, but perhaps Rooney is consoled by the fact that other women don’t pay a whole lot of attention to him…

JOAQUIN PHOENIX: FIRST PRESENTER IN A BLACK HOODY

Could NOT take our eyes off of Joaquin Phoenix when he walked onstage at The Golden Globes. He was last year’s Best Actor winner for Joker, so his was an important appearance as a presenter. Phoenix sauntered onstage smirking, clad in sneakers, jeans, and a black hoody. They only thing that separated him from looking like a robber at a 7-Eleven was a skinny black tie. (Being ONSTAGE is not the same as on video at home) The Golden Globes show has strict fashion rules for everyone involved – even for the PRESS, who usually stand outside in front of the Beverly Hilton Hotel and are not on camera. It’s black tie for men (tuxedos) and evening dresses for women or you are sent home. Yes, Joaquin had a black tie, but would a woman have gotten away with this outfit onstage? We remember a few years ago when a gown-clad woman was BANNED from a red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival for not wearing HIGH HEELS! IF the pandemic has actually softened fashion rules, designers will be devastated…

IT’S EASY FOR JOAQUIN PHOENIX TO LOOK TRAUMATIZED

Joaquin Phoenix just started filming his next movie in New York after his amazing billion dollar Joker performance. He appears to be playing yet another tortured soul – a documentary filmmaker who bonds with his nephew, whose father is bi-polar and manic. Those are the only details of the plot that are known- director/writer Mike Mills is keeping the drama under wraps and so far it’s being called “The Untitled Mike Mills Project.”

JOKER IS A TICKET TO DESPAIR

Looking for laughs? Wrong movie. Joker IS complicated. From the start, Gotham is a dismal and grim world – trash is piling up in the filthy streets, people are abusive to each other, and the sun never shines. There is ZERO resemblance to Batman comics. Joker is a mentally disturbed loner who makes a living dressed as a clown and lives with his equally sad mother in a bleak hole of an apartment. There seem to be no decent people of any kind in this movie so there’s no one to care about. Joaquin Phoenix skillfully wallows in depression and insanity onscreen, and Joker ends up driven to mass murder. He blames HIS problems on successful people, inspiring his motto, Kill The Rich. (Not a good message for America today) This stirs up hordes of other misfits to riot and slaughter. There is no lesson to be learned from this gruesome film – if you want to be depressed – this is the movie for you.

OMG! JOAQUIN PHOENIX AND ROONEY MARA ARE STARTING TO LOOK ALIKE!

We thought it took at least a few years of marriage before a couple started to look alike, but Rooney Mara, 34, and Joaquin Phoenix, 44, are already well on their way. The two, who have been described as “shy homebodies” live together in Joaquin’s Hollywood Hills home where they enjoy meditating and watching documentaries together. Occasionally they go to a small vegan restaurant or take a karate class together, but the two introverts seem quite happy. Both animal activists, the well-matched pair turned up for National Animal Rights Day in West Hollywood.

JOAQUIN PHOENIX MIGHT MAKE YOU FORGET ALL THOSE OTHER JOKERS

We didn’t think the Joker could get much creepier than Heath Ledger’s brilliant version, but Joaquin Phoenix has major potential. His Joker starts out as a frustrated stand-up comedian who can’t catch a break and turns to criminal activity – and eventually criminal insanity. There is no Batman in this film – it’s all about the Joker and we bet there will be some twisted humor…

ROONEY MARA AND HER MAN RARELY GO OUT

Rooney Mara, 33, is always a red carpet rebel – flamboyance is not her middle name. That makes her more interesting than most – while much of Hollywood is at Halloween parties, Rooney stepped out for an animal charity. Yes, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo star is wearing a harness, but it is NOT leather. Shy and standoffish, Rooney met her match in Joaquin Phoenix when they costarred in Mary Magdalene and they are now living together rather reclusively in the Hollywood Hills, with NO plans for marriage.

LIV TYLER’S FORMER FIANCEE LOOKS DOWN AND OUT

But looks can be deceiving. Joaquin Phoenix, 41, is actually a wealthy and successful actor – he only LOOKS homeless with that raggedy beard and hair in New York. In fact he’s filming his new thriller “You Were Never Really Here.” Phoenix plays a troubled war veteran who becomes something of a hero by rescuing women from sex traffickers. Eventually something goes horribly wrong and bad things happen. In case you forgot, Joaquin was engaged to the beautiful Liv Tyler back in the late 90’s when she was very young.

JOAQUIN PHOENIX IS QUITE A CATCH

The irrepressible Joaquin Phoenix, 40, announced to David Letterman that he is now engaged to his yoga instructor. He declared “I think she’s The One!” On the plus side, Joaquin is vegan and doesn’t wear leather – that might appeal to a yoga girl. But he does have a history of eccentric behavior, substance abuse, and he’s an ardent SMOKER. Can she live with his idiosyncrasies? She might be the best thing that ever happened to him…
Update: Joaquin admitted he made up the fishy story because he has “a boring life.”

SHIA LABEOUF: ANOTHER “FAME” MELTDOWN? IS IT REALLY THAT AGONIZING BEING AN ACTOR?

Shia LaBeouf proved to himself that he still has plenty of fans with that “art” stunt last weekend. He commandeered a small art gallery on Beverly Blvd and received visitors with a bag on his head emphasizing his dislike of being “famous.” We drove by several times and there were always at least a hundred people in line around the block to see him, and a burly bodyguard at the door keeping order. We can’t help thinking he’s following the lead of Joaquin Phoenix who tried to convince us that he dropped out of the movie business to become a rapper with an aversion to bathing. He ditched the idea as soon as a good movie offer came along and we think Shia will too.
