BOB DYLAN- ANTISOCIAL AND DIFFICULT -BUT FASCINATING

Just saw and really liked the Bob Dylan movie A Complete Unknown and it brought back a great memory. Back in the 80’s (according to my hair) one of my FAVORITE performers, Jerry Lee Lewis, appeared at what is now The Avalon club on Vine St, and for some reason he was kind enough to invite me into his small and crowded dressing room after the show. (Always loved rockabillies) Jerry Lee was surprisingly friendly and had no fear of tabloid journalists. (Star Magazine) While in his dressing room I met Lisa Marie Presley– she was tiny and cute. Suddenly a group of bodyguard types marched in with Bob Dylan in the middle. Bob looked SO grungy that we backed away to give him room. He greeted Jerry Lee and pretty much kept to himself surrounded by security. Just like the movie- he did NOT seem to enjoy attention…

TIMOTHEE CHALAMET : JUST ANOTHER FACE IN THE CROWD

SOME people don’t know how to navigate under the radar, but Timothee Chalamet manages to walk all around New York City with barely a second glance, much less a paparazzi. The SAG/AFTRA strike has most actors out of work with time on their hands. When he’s not chowing down on a slice of 99 cent pizza, Timothee is working with a dialog coach prepping for his next film, A Complete Unknown. He’s playing Bob Dylan in the film and he’s working on perfecting Dylan’s unique voice. Bob must be flattered to have such a good-looking actor playing him…

Bob Dylan Chubby Chaser Memories

BOB DYLAN WAS A CHUBBY CHASER

Bob Dylan is in the news this week because he sold his songwriting catalog to Universal. There was some discussion that he had so many disgruntled ex-girlfriends and children (exactly how MANY children is unknown) that he could use the money. It brought back memories of a night backstage at the Palace theater in Hollywood in the early 90’s when we were outside Jerry Lee Lewis’s dressing room backstage and Bob Dylan had a path cleared by bodyguards so he could walk in ahead of us. He actually looked so unwashed and scuzzy that we quickly stepped back – and out of his way. In those days Bob was a bigtime womanizer and known as a chubby chaser. He had a penchant for pretty black women who were obese, and had a string of them all over town. Maybe some were backup singers, but most were ordinary secretaries and schoolteachers. He wasn’t very sociable so we wondered how he found them (no internet in those days!)

DON’T THINK TWICE: IT’S BOB DYLAN’S GRANDSON LEVI DYLAN

A lot of well-dressed men turned up for the 2019 GQ Men of the Year Celebration in West Hollywood and we can just IMAGINE the pressure some of the participants are under – “What’s a guy to wear?” The room is full of designer draped rappers, gorgeous male models, and handsome actors. Female attire was secondary at this event. Levi Dylan didn’t fret too long over that black double-breasted suit, and he could have shaved. Levi is the grandson of Bob Dylan and son of Jakob Dylan of The Wallflowers. He’s a model/actor and says he’s more into “visuals” than music…
