JUSTINE BATEMAN: LONG TIME NO SEE

We remember back in the 80’s when Justine Bateman was a huge tabloid celebrity in Hollywood. Her series, Family Ties (with Michael J Fox) was on the air from 82 to 89 and the paparazzi followed her everywhere. Nobody realized then that she had a big health problem- she was anorexic and bulimic. She was also constantly in the gym doing aerobics classes until she practically passed out. Paparazzi waited outside. Her 3 years younger brother Jason Bateman was an aspiring actor then, in awe of his sister’s success. Eventually Justine had to join a 12 step program to get a grip on her eating disorders. AND she continued her education – graduating from the University of California in 2014 with a degree in computer science and digital media. These days she works in directing, writing, and producing. So it’s no surprise she turned up to support the  Writers Guild strike. That’s Noah Wylie next to her in the photo.

RILEY KEOUGH IS NOT EATING HER WAY THROUGH THE HOLIDAYS

Did NOT recognize Riley Keough in this photo of her leaving the Chanel Film Benefit Gala at the MoMa in New York because she looks so skinny! It seems her fans have been chatting incessantly online about her 25 pound weight loss. Some say Elvis’s granddaughter started losing weight because she was devastated after her brother Benjamin Keough’s suicide last year. Others have decided that she’s anorexic. Since most people would be thrilled to lose weight, we hope she’s happy with herself. Certainly she can indulge over the holidays more than the rest of us!

IRELAND BALDWIN: THE DOWNSIDE OF HAVING A GORGEOUS MOTHER

Sure, it’s nice to be genetically blessed by having Kim Basinger for a mother, but it can create some insecurities, according to Ireland Baldwin, 24. Ireland recently celebrated six years of NOT having eating disorders on Instagram. When she was a teen she suffered from body issues including anorexia and bulimia. Now she admits: “It wasn’t worth turning down so many sides of fries!” When she first started modeling, Ireland says she was very insecure and never felt thin enough. Food became a big problem. It took some work, but she finally got a grip on it and is able to enjoy her life now. She wants other young girls to know “You can do it too!”

GIULIANA RANCIC INSISTS THAT IT’S NOT HER FAULT THAT SHE’S SO SKINNY

We’re not buying Giuliana Rancic’s denial that she has an eating disorder. She claims that cancer suppressing medication she takes causes weight loss and that she eats more than anyone she knows. She says “I know I’m too thin. I want to look fit and beautiful and sexy, but I can’t.” Note to Giuliana: People who feel they are underweight try to make up for it by dressing appropriately. Bright colors, loose fitting clothes, plenty of layers. But Giuliana wears black, super-high heels, skin tight, skimpy clothes that show a lot of skin and bone. She dresses like she WANTS to look as slender as possible. By blaming meds, Giuliana hopes for pity, but actually she thrives on looking thin. Denial is an important part of eating disorders.

ANOREXIA IS CELEBRATED IN ITALY?

Urban Outfitters just had a photo banned from their website in the UK because the model looked “unhealthily thin.” The Advertising Standards Authority ordered them to remove the picture. Apparently the message about anorexic looking models has not reached Italy. This is a promotional photo for luxury shoe designer Giuseppe Zanotti’s Spring/Summer 2015 collection. Czech model Karolina Kurkova looks lean and hungry, but well shod.

TRACEY GOLD AND CARNIE WILSON THROW THEIR WEIGHT AROUND ON “CELEBRITY WIFE SWAP”

When we heard about the new ABC reality show Celebrity Wife Swap we wondered whether celebrities would actually embarrass themselves and cooperate, but obviously they will – for the right price. The premier episode on January 2, features two celebs with opposite eating disorders – Carnie Wilson (singer from Wilson Phillips) who battles obesity despite stomach stapling surgery, and “Growing Pains” actress Tracey Gold, an admitted anorexic. The three day “swap” reveals that Carnie is a casual housewife who doesn’t mind dirty dishes piling up. Tracey is portrayed as a neat freak who makes lists and runs a tight ship at home. Opposite marriages reveal the big differences in their husbands. Carnie ends up envying Tracey’s close and communicative marriage. We’re already hooked and plan to tune in.

TWO REASONS WHY LARA FLYNN BOYLE GOT A REALITY SHOW: ANOREXIA AND PLASTIC SURGERY

The fact that the former star of The Practice, Lara Flynn Boyle, 40, has a new reality series on E! has a lot of people surprised in Hollywood. “Why HER?” they want to know. The premise of the show is supposedly Lara’s dual life – as a wife in Texas (married to a real estate developer) and as a Hollywood actress. (If she were still dating Jack Nicholson it would be a lot more understandable.) But, let’s face it, Lara’s REAL appeal is the fact that this pretty actress has weight issues (she’s been accused of anorexia) and plastic surgery galore. Her lips and face have changed radically and THIS makes her highly watchable.

CREATIVE EMMYS HOST KATHY GRIFFIN: I’M NOT ANOREXIC, BUT THANKS FOR THE COMPLIMENT!

When Kathy Griffin lost the creative Emmy for best reality programming to Ryan Seacrest, she tweeted “Call the paramadics!” implying she needed to be committed for mental observation. She will CERTAINLY be consoled by the fact that she looked exceptionally SLIM at the awards show. We’re guessing she heard the most flattering words in Hollywood ”Honey, you’re getting too thin!” more than once during the evening. That’s even better than an Emmy in this town.
