ROBERT DE NIRO’S CAREER IS ON FIRE

wizard-of-liescut

We’ve been eagerly anticipating the release of the brilliant Nancy MeyersThe Intern starring Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway (Sept 25.) The trailer, above, indicates that the movie is smart and funny – with DeNiro at his comic best. He’d barely finished that project when De Niro started filming the Bernie Madoff story called The Wizard of Lies” for HBO. Michelle Pfeiffer plays his wife Ruth and judging by the first on-set photo released, it looks quite fascinating. It’s gratifying that DeNiro is 72 and still working nonstop. If only women could have such long acting careers…

  1. It might be interesting if , as an intern, he were to revert to the hard nosed , evil bastard he can portray ….should someone have a problem that a 70 year old would be expected to play….

  2. Women actress tend not to have the same range as male actors. And many male actors don’t have the range to do different genres. De Niro is one of those actors that can do it all from drama to comedy to action. And let’s face it, if most movie going audiences don’t give a rat’s behind about actresses. If they did, we’d see more movies with them. Even most females believe this.

  3. Most females do not believe “that.” Women are having a hard time getting their scripts produced because men run Hollywood and please themselves.

  4. Nancy Meyers is my favorite, but I really hope The Intern isn’t filled with sterotypical old-people jokes.

  5. DeNiro really gets the Madoff persona.

As for females in Hollywood, the double standard applies, even on Public TV sponsored shows. Individual actors have range or not much range, regardless of gender. Gender is not the definition of “range,” or skill, or talent.
