We rarely report on health issues, but after much deliberation we decided to proceed with this item for a few reasons. First, the curiosity and speculation surrounding Diane Keaton’s unexpected passing is at an all time high. Also, we were very fond of her and would never write this if it included any embarrassing details. We can exclusively report that Diane was diagnosed with aggressive Alzheimer’s and Dementia at the beginning of 2025, which is why she decided to get her affairs in order (like listing her Brentwood home) before she lost her mental capacity. Three weeks prior to her passing she was hospitalized at St. John’s in Santa Monica with pneumonia, and was in respiratory distress. She was eventually released, but on the day she passed, she collapsed from cardiac arrest and was again rushed to the St John’s ER. Medical staffers were actually able to revive her for a few minutes, but her heart eventually gave out and she coded. The cause of death will be cardiac arrest due to respiratory failure. My source added that Diane deteriorated quickly during the last month, but she was never in pain, and toward the end was oblivious to what was happening. A sad passing, but it’s comforting to know it wasn’t long, drawn out, or painful.

Rapid deterioration from Alzheimer’s is very rare. Usually, it takes many years for the disease to kill someone. Glen Campbell comes to mind. So, I wonder if it was another type of dementia?

That is a heartbreaker. On some level though, it was probably more peaceful than living with aggressive Alzheimer’s. Not that anyone in her family is feeling that way at this time, I am just saying.
My father died from brain cancer, rapidly, in a matter of a few months. I knew other people whose family members lived with it for years. I ended up feeling grateful it was quick.
