Obnoxious Behavior

WE SPENT AN EVENING WITH CHEVY CHASE

Chevy Chase, has indeed, always been his own worst enemy. He was lucky enough to be in the cast of Saturday Night Live when it premiered in 1975 and the show was an immediate sensation. His success was so intoxicating that he quit after the first season “to become a movie star.” And he never looked back. Rumors that he was obnoxious were just starting to circulate but he was still generally admired. I happened to make a date with a young actor who appeared in the very successful film “Nashville” that same year and he brought his friend Chevy along. We ended up at someone’s fabulous hillside house watching TV and the REAL Chevy was soon revealed. He made nonstop insulting comments about everyone on the tube. He was condescending and pretentious about his fancy upbringing and vulgar to boot. He made everyone feel awful – especially his nice actor friend. It was an unforgettable and very revealing evening.

WHAT CAUSED PATTI LABELLE TO FLIP OUT?

We were horrified all over again when it was announced that Patti LaBelle paid $100,000 to settle that lawsuit accusing her of verbally attacking a pregnant mother and child in the lobby of the New York apartment where LaBelle was living at the time. It’s a strange story – apparently Patti became enraged when she noted an 18 month old child playing in the lobby of her building. She yelled obscenities, shouted the f-word, called the mother the c-word, and drenched her with a bottle of water! The mother grabbed her crying daughter and accused Patti of scaring her, and Patti’s entourage had to hold her back from lunging at the pair and pulled her into a waiting car! The mother’s lawyer figured Patti settled because the jury would favor the little girl and said the money will be donated to a children’s cancer charity. We’d love to hear Patti’s side of this story.

KEVIN SMITH: WE’RE BACKING SOUTHWEST AIRLINES ON THIS ONE

Would YOU want to sit next to this man on an airplane (or for that matter, in a movie theater?) We’re siding with Southwest Airlines here. Chubby director Kevin Smith has been griping about being kicked off a flight for not buying two tickets like he usually does. Anyone who’s ever been forced to sit next to an overweight person in coach KNOWS how miserable it is. The seats ARE too small, but normal size people should not be made even MORE uncomfortable by obese seat-mates flopping into their limited personal space. We’re thrilled that Southwest is implementing this rule.

OMAR SHARIF: "INTOXICATED AND BELLIGERENT"

We were disgusted to hear about one time heartthrob and Dr Zhivago star Omar Sharif’s behavior at Mastro’s steakhouse. Sharif, 75, was described as “intoxicated and belligerent” in 2005 when he left the posh restaurant with a female companion. He tried to pay the valet parking attendant with a 20 euro note and when the guy refused the foreign currency, Sharif called him a “stupid Mexican” and PUNCHED him in the face! (In 2002 Sharif was fined for head-butting a French police officer!) The good news is that the parking attendant sued the arrogant actor for assault and battery and was just awarded $318,000 in damages. The bad news is that Sharif lives in Egypt. Good luck collecting.
