Olympic skater Johnny Weir is obsessed with flashing designer names and he’s especially fond of designer handbags. He proudly admits to having at least 40 Balenciaga bags, over a dozen Chanel bags, and a shocking, but undisclosed, number of pricey Hermes Birkin bags. Six years ago, when he divorced Victor Voronov, Johnny confessed that he cheated on his husband and Victor retaliated by defacing some of his Birkin bags. THAT put an end to the stormy marriage. Due to his handbag addiction, Johnny has been called “the gay Kim K” and he’s not at ALL insulted!

EJ Johnson, 28, is keeping cool in New York wearing a crop top, a miniskirt, and what looks like an Hermes Birkin bag in turquoise. The Rich kids of Beverly Hills star certainly lives up to the title of his now cancelled reality series. EJ is said to have a massive and colorful collection of pricey Birkin bags – at least two of them are crocodile and worth over $100,000. Can you imagine carrying around such an expensive bag? It seems like an open invitation to thieves! EJ has been studying acting and he hopes to get into the fashion business, but he never seems to be looking for work…

KANYE WEST AND HIS ARTISTIC PREDILECTIONS

We simply cannot let the issue of the handbag that Kanye West gave Kim for Christmas pass by without comment. Granted, Kim may be tough to shop for- because she seems to already have everything – materialistic, that is. Kanye was determined to show both his generosity and the “artistic edge” he claims to have acquired, so he took a $16,000 Hermes Birkin bag and had artist George Condo paint on it. Condo’s work has been known to sell for a million dollars, but this looks like an atrocity to us. We think he ruined a perfectly nice bag, but Kim says she loves it and posted this photo on Instagram.

THE BAG IS NOW MORE FAMOUS THAN JANE BIRKIN

Here’s the woman who started the whole “Birkin bag” mania. Singer Jane Birkin gained fame in London in the swinging 60’s and moved to France and became a huge star. In 1982 she was on a plane seated next to eh CEO of Hermes, and when she stowed her handbag in the overheaed compartment, the contents fell out on the floor. She complained that she had a hard time finding a leather weekend bag she liked. In 1984 the CEO created the handmade bag for her and it immediately became highly collectible and a symbol of conspicuous consumption because it was so expensive and hard to get – the company had waiting lists! It sounds risky, but the fact that Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have both put their LA homes on the market indicates that they probably ARE planning to rent a lavish place together. They’ve no doubt realized that as a couple they attract even more publicity than they did separately, and that is a huge PLUS for this attention seeking pair. You can bet their new home will have enormous his and hers closets because they are both fashion freaks. Setting up housekeeping together is also easy because they both love wearing fur coats (above) and prefer to eat from ridiculously expensive Hermes tableware. But can these two egos survive under one roof?

We’re told it costs well over a hundred thousand dollars and it is one of only three in circulation. And the waiting list is closed! Posh broke out the ultimate bag – appropriately – at an event in Dubai. (You can imagine the ogling in THAT moneyed crowd.) It seems strange when a purse is worth more than it’s contents.
