Her hair is in rollers and her concealer needs blending, but the most interesting part is her “lip mask.” What exactly is this plastic looking device doing? Well, HERE’S a couple you’re lucky to see once every six months. Six years and two kids after they first met, Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes are rarely seen together in public. Ryan Gosling looks particularly handsome on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival premier of The Nice Guys. As usual, he is not with his love of five years, Eva Mendes – they almost never appear in public together. Of course, she also surprised everyone by giving birth to their second daughter last week. In spite of the secrecy, they seem to be very happy and devoted to each other. Sometimes Ryan can’t resist blurting out things like “I know I’m with the person I’m supposed to be with and I never knew life could be this fun!”

Ryan Gosling cleans up VERY nicely for scenes in “The Big Short” which is filming at the New Orleans airport.(No sweatpants!) He plays one of those millionaire profiteers from the economic collapse. His relationship with Eva Mendes remains a mystery. Are they even living together with their new baby Esmeralda? When Eva talks about caring for the baby she never says “we” as if Ryan is also involved. Hopefully their romance will continue now that they are parents, but they ARE awfully secretive.

With all their fashion collections, you never see a Kardashian wearing one of their own garments. Jennifer Lopez is one exception – and also Eva Mendes. Eva Mendes is filming an ad for her fashion collection at New York & Company and she looks like she’s wearing a frock from her own closet. While Eva stops traffic in Times Square, New York, her baby daddy Ryan Gosling is in Los Angeles filming “The Nice Guys.” He was spotted with a brand new knuckle tattoo with the letters “ESME” – which is his six month old baby daughter Esmeralda’s nickname.

Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes are finally going out in public after the birth of their baby Esmeralda. It’s interesting that for their date night this weekend they chose to see Don Rickles, 88, perform at the Saban Theater in Beverly Hills. The iconic Rickles, who inspired many of today’s comedians, is considered to be an “insult comic” and he spares no one. All types and ethnicities are his targets. Early in his career he was onstage at a Miami nightclub – he saw Frank Sinatra sit down in the audience, and wisecracked “ Make yourself at home, Frank, HIT someone!” Sinatra loved him and helped make him a star. To be insulted by Rickles is considered to be a badge of honor. In this age of “political correctness” he must seem more outrageous than ever.

Ryan Gosling, 33, has always been the small budget Indie film type who likes sensitive roles. But now that he’s a NEW FATHER, things have changed. Those big budget Hollywood franchise movies with giant salaries are starting to look good. Ryan always nixed movies that might require sequals because he didn’t want to be tied down. According to The Hollywood Reporter, he’s already had a meeting with Marvel Studios about a superhero role and is entertaining an offer from DC Comics to play a supervillain. Now that Ryan and Eva Mendes have a baby daughter Esmeralda, making tons of money and being “tied down” doesn’t sound so bad.

Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes take themselves very seriously and go out of their way to avoid the intrusive press. Consequently, unless a paparazzi photo pops up of the couple together – we don’t know their relationship status. It’s been many months since Eva and Ryan have been anywhere together. There were reports of problems between them when they were filming “Lost River “ last year, with Ryan directing. The movie, described as a nightmarish fantasy inspired by David Lynch, was screened at Cannes this year in May and got booed by the audience. Eva, who costarred with Christina Hendricks, was conspicuously ABSENT. Because she was pregnant or because she and Ryan were on the outs? The big question now is – will they raise this child together?

Ryan Gosling’s directorial debut was not exactly a smash success at the Cannes Film Festival. “Lost River” was harshly reviewed although some writers conceded that there were moments of magic. Just not enough. It’s the story of a struggling single mother (played by Christina Hendricks) in battered Detroit who gets caught up in a nightmarish world of deviation. As a whole, the movie was not well received by the audience either – they booed at the end. Eva Mendes, who costarred in the film, was conspicuously absent from Cannes so she couldn’t console her boyfriend. This couple refuses to walk a red carpet together -if indeed they still ARE together.
