BEBE REXHA: TRYING WAY TOO HARD

As much as we LOVE the color red, we have to vote Bebe Rexha Worst Dressed on the American Music Awards red carpet. Bebe has been at war with couture designers – she complained that top designers would not create dresses for her because at size 8, she is just too large. For the AMA’s she went to a non-judgmental Chinese designer who gave her everything she wanted in one dress. Too much, in fact. She looks desperate for attention with those huge puff shoulders, ruffles everywhere, and a long train, topped off by deep cleavage. A little less fluff and a little more rock n’ roll would have suited the occasion better.

American Music Awards Cardi B Host

WILL CARDI B HAVE DICK CLARK SPINNING IN HIS GRAVE?

Cardi B had a surprising business-like look in New York today, where she’s gearing up to host the American Music Awards. In fact, this is the first time we’ve seen her in a sensible suit. She’s definitely a wild choice to host the awards because she has zero experience. AMA producers figure that her crazy reputation will have lots of new viewers tuning in and give the show a much-needed boost in ratings. Question is: will she follow the script? (We doubt it!) She’s also nominated for Favorite Hip Hop Artist and Song – will she be a sore loser? Will she pronounce everybody’s names right? SO many possibilities… the fun show airs November 21.

Alice Cooper American Music Awards Dick Clark Heavy Metal Pat Boone

THE DAY PAT BOONE WENT HEAVY METAL

We needed a laugh today, and came across this photo of Pat Boone and Alice Cooper onstage at the American Music Awards in 1997 on the website Dangerous Minds. That year, fanatical Christian musician Pat Boone, then 63, released an album of heavy metal covers and AMA producer Dick Clark came up with the idea of having Boone appear dressed up in leather with fake tattoos and piercings. Clark wanted to pair up Boone with Alice Cooper, and have Alice dress like a conservative businessman. At the last minute Alice backed out and dressed like himself, but Pat got a LOT of attention for his fun new “look.” The audience “went nuts” for Boone’s costume, but some Christians didn’t find it funny, and he lost his job hosting Trinity TV’s show Gospel America. Pat Boone was reportedly SHOCKED that his fellow Christians lacked a sense of humor about his stunt!

DOES BOBBY BROWN REMINISCE ABOUT THE OLD DAYS?

Bobby Brown looks like a typical suburban dad now, but we remember when he was a hot commodity. We met Bobby years ago at the after-party for the AMA show. That’s when he was riding high with New Edition, but Bobby was really funny, friendly and likeable. So we were not surprised when Whitney Houston fell hard for him. She was almost pathologically jealous of him- she would track him down at a party somewhere and show up and surprise him! (before cellphones) Once we remember him at a party, ducking into a back room looking guilty when word got out that Whitney was at the front door asking for him. He loved her, but he WAS mischievous. Anyway, we bet Bobby’s kids wouldn’t believe that their dad was once a casanova…

BEST AND WORST DRESSED: AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS 2017

BEST DRESSED: Hands down, Selena Gomez was voted Best Dressed at the American Music Awards the minute she set foot on the red carpet. Not only is she dressed appropriately for the occasion – young, rock n roll, sexy, but not TOO sexy, with brand new blonde hair, but she didn’t look like she was trying TOO hard. And everyone was happy to see her looking as beautiful and healthy as ever after her liver transplant.
WORST DRESSED: We like Kelly Clarkson far too much to let her stylist get sway with THIS! Kelly is beloved for her natural, wholesome good looks- and this look at the AMA’s couldn’t be more artificial. (Talk about trying TOO hard!) That heavy makeup (black lipstick?) matronly too-fancy gown, and droopy extensions make her look like a cross between a 1980’s country singer and a Goth opera singer. That’s NOT our sweet Kelly. Did you know she has a ranch in Texas for unwanted (blind, crippled etc) animals? We rest our case.

WE PREFER LADY GAGA IN THE MEAT DRESS

Lady Gaga took a serious fashion turn last night at the American Music Awards and we miss her twisted sense of humor. In every photo from the event Gaga is posing like a runway model, trout pout and all. Her gigantic platform shoes, hidden under her long pants, even gave her the height of a model. Was she living a dream? Unfortunately, her personality and sense of fun seems to have evaporated. She DID look glamorous, but we love the old outrageous Gaga.

American Music Awards Best Dressed Ciara

CIARA WAS THE MOST COMFORTABLE WOMAN AT THE AMA’S

You don’t even have to be pregnant like she is, to appreciate Ciara’s AMA dress. How great it must be to actually be comfortable AND look good at a red carpet event! It was a cool night and Ciara, 31, was probably the only female not shivering. She’s wearing a velvet turtleneck with a satin hi-lo skirt and the skirt lining is puffy like a duvet. When she sat down she could just wrap herself up! Besides looking good, Ciara is a successful singer, songwriter, dancer, and model. She married footballer Russell Wilson last summer and they’re expecting their first child.

American Music Awards Kids Travis Barker

WHAT’S IT LIKE TO HAVE TRAVIS BARKER FOR YOUR FATHER?

It appears the Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker is a surprisingly involved dad and he loves taking his kids to music and award shows. And they don’t disappoint on the red carpet. Travis’s little girl Alabama, 10, is already a princess in a fluffy gown at the American Music Awards. His boy Landon, 12, is looking punk and probably dying for a tattoo. We are particularly impressed that Travis never forgets his step-daughter Atiana de la Hoya, 15. She is Travis’s exwife Shanna Moakler’s daughter with boxer Oscar de la Hoya. Both girls are pretty like their beauty queen mom and Landon is a chip off the old block.
