Susan Sarandon

THE UPSIDE OF COVID

At any other time in history have two Oscar winning movie stars been able to walk the streets of New York TOGETHER totally unnoticed and unbothered by fans? Not on our watch! Susan Sarandon and Jessica Lange took a long and chatty walk through the city without incident. (You last saw them together as Bette Davis and Joan Crawford in Ryan Murphy’s Feud) The Covid mask has changed everything for celebrities – suddenly all humans are equal. Famous people can now go to places like Target or take a walk in the park and no one pays attention. There are more movie stars in supermarkets in California than have ever been seen before. They are walking their dogs and riding bikes and checking out farmer’s markets happily undercover. Celebrities might be wearing masks longer than the rest of us…

SUSAN SARANDON AND GEENA DAVIS LIVE UP TO THEIR THELMA & LOUISE CHARACTERS

We’re betting that Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis had no idea back in 1991 that their film Thelma & Louise would become a symbol of the women’s movement in the future. Their emancipated characters are beloved by women to this day. So it make sense that the Women in Motion organization, which aims to shine a light on women’s contributions to cinema, would screen that film for their event at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Both Susan and Geena are activists for women’s rights and in 2004 Geena founded the Institute on Gender In Media that researches gender representation in media.

SUSAN SARANDON AND HER SONS HAVE A LOT IN COMMON

“Feud” star and social activist Susan Sarandon, 70, brought her two strapping sons to the Venice Film Festival because they are both in the family business. Their father is actor Tim Robbins, who was with Susan for over 20 years, but they never married. The taller one, (he’s 6’4”) Jack, 28, is a film editor and director. The other son Miles, 25, is a musician and actor, who thinks nothing of wearing a dress now and then, and like his mother, supports gender neutrality. It makes sense that they would attend the screening of “Human Flow”– a documentary about the global refugee crisis.

JOAN CRAWFORD AND BETTE DAVIS WOULD HAVE LOVED RYAN MURPHY

Ryan Murphy has already successfully filmed six out of eight episodes of FX’s “Feud” and he’s made SURE that not a single photo of Jessica Lange or Susan Sarandon in character has leaked out. We hear that Jessica in makeup is a dead ringer for her character Joan Crawford, and Susan already has those Bette Davis eyes! The story celebrates the two stars’ rivalry, and takes place at a dinner at gossip columnist Hedda Hopper’s (played by Judy Davis) house right before the two stars were set to film “Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?” Two women over 50 starring in a movie would never happen today and the plot examines the desperation that mature women in Hollywood suffered then and now. We hear that Jessica Lange and Judy Davis have become fast friends on and off the set. Thanks heavens for TV, or these women wouldn’t be working!

SUSAN SARANDON AND KENDRICK SAMPSON: POLITICAL BEDFELLOWS – OR MORE?

Susan Sarandon, 70, was photographed at the 2016 Breeder’s Cup World Championship at the Santa Ana Racetrack looking happy with actor Kendrick Sampson, 28. You’ve seen Sampson on “How to Get Away With Murder.” Susan and Sampson are both political activists – for months they campaigned fervently together for Bernie Sanders. The question is: are they more than political buddies? (Remember, Susan’s last boyfriend was 30 years younger than her!) Form your own conclusions….

WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BETTE DAVIS AND JOAN CRAWFORD?

Is Ryan Murphy actually thinking of reinventing the essentially PERFECT 1962 movie “Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?” It featured two of the greatest all time movie legends and gay icons, Bette Davis and Joan Crawford, in their decline. In perhaps the best B movie ever made, screen queens Bette and Joan appeared in shockingly unflattering roles – each one desperate to out-act the other. (Coincidentally, it was also filmed at recognizable places in our own Hollywood neighborhood.) Fortunately, Ryan is NOT remaking the film. He’s documenting the bitter rivalry behind the scenes between the two actresses leading up to Baby Jane in an anthology series for FX called Feud. Sounds like fun, but it’s hard to picture Susan Sarandon as Bette – Jessica Lange as Joan seems more plausible. Surprise – Brad Pitt is co-producing with Ryan.

SUSAN SARANDON AND HER ECCENTRIC OFFSPRING

We just HAD to take a second look at Susan Sarandon and her son Miles Robbins at the NY premier of Zoolander 2. Miles got into the spirit of the movie with his zany outfit consisting of a blue jacket with My Little Pony heads sewn on it, worn over with a shirt dress and white tights. His long hair is in a pony tail. Miles, 23, happens to be the lead singer of a NY band The Tangents and the whole group has long hair and occasionally wear dresses. No big deal. Miles says he’s not fond of neckties but that doesn’t mean he wants to be a woman. He just enjoys his freedom to dress as he pleases. He’s got the right mother – Susan celebrates his individuality.

SUSAN SARANDON DOESN’T LOOK LIKE A GRANDMOTHER

AG036047_01suscut

She looks so great that you’d never guess that Susan Sarandon is about to become a grandmother, thanks to her daughter, actress Eva Amurri. Coincidentally, Susan plays Melissa McCarthy’s mischievous alcoholic grandmother in “Tammy” – due to be released July 2. The twosome take a road trip with some hilarious consequences and we can’t wait to see it.(Above Susan and her dog Penny)

IT HAPPENED IN THE 80’S: SUSAN SARANDON AND DAVID BOWIE!

tumblr_mfg3jaqqHMbowiecut

We love being surprised to hear about unlikely celebrities who dated back in the day. Who knew Susan Sarandon had a fling with David Bowie? Susan and David, both now 67, hooked up while they were filming the 1983 vampire movie “The Hunger.” They were both single at the time. This gossip tidbit came to light when Susan’s friend Melissa McCarthy blurted it out while (ironically) giving Susan an AARP Lifetime Achievement Award. According to the National Enquirer, Susan’s kids in the audience were astonished! Not surprisingly, their mother had never mentioned it! (Above, Susan and David out somewhere in 1983)
