SACHA BARON COHEN TIDIES UP THE OVAL OFFICE

Fell in love with this photo of Sacha Baron Cohen cleaning up the White House in Vanity Fair’s 27th annual Hollywood issue. It’s award season and the publication is celebrating ten actors, directors, and producers who made a splash during the pandemic. Cohen successfully filmed his Borat 2 movie under challenging pandemic circumstances and it won him a Golden Globe. He takes delight in making fun of American politics.
Conceptual artists Maurizio Cattelan and Pierpaolo Ferrari created this picture for Vanity Fair.

SACHA BARON COHEN HAS THE LAST TWEET

Sacha Baron Cohen’s new Amazon movie Borat Subsequent Movie Film infuriated Donald Trump who tweeted, calling Sacha “a creep who tried to scam me!” Sacha tweeted a thank you to the President for the free publicity and offered him a job, indicating that he was “always looking for people to play racist buffoons in his films -and “you’ll need a job after January 20!” Yesterday Sacha rescinded the offer, tweeting “I know I offered you a job- but your performance this past week (Twitter flagged Trump for false information) was so tragic that I take back the offer!” Sacha can next be seen in The Trial of the Chicago 7.

BORAT IS BACK FROM KAZAKHSTAN

Those of you who are distressed at the idea of Keeping Up with the Kardashians wrapping in two years are in for a pleasant surprise. While you were busy fretting over Kim and Kanye, Sacha Baron Cohen has been furtively filming a new Borat movie! In the new one, Borat supposedly thinks the 2006 film made him famous, and he’s now a recognizable celebrity. He’s forced to wear disguises to continue his interviews and investigations of American culture. Sacha has been spotted secretly filming in a few odd places in the US, and now the movie is finished and ready to release (on HBO? HULU?) If it’s HALF as funny as the first one, we’ll be happy!

SACHA BARON COHEN: GASPING FOR AIR

Something that never occurred to us until recently: riding a bike, running, or exercising is VERY difficult to do with a mask on! Even going to the supermarket wearing one of those high power medical masks is painful because they are SO tight and hot and inhibit breathing. We don’t know how people who work in hospitals manage to wear them all day! Sacha Baron Cohen struggled as long as he could and when the coast was clear, pulled his mask down to take a breath while riding in Beverly Hills today. His movie The Trial of the Chicago 7 is still set to come out in October…

ISLA FISHER IS FUNNY IN HER OWN WAY

Isla Fisher married Sacha Baron Cohen in 2010 and they have three children and seem quite happy in spite of his off-beat sense of humor. (Borat is the first comedy that made us laugh so hard we fell fall out of our theater seat.) Isla works steadily in Hollywood and Sacha has an interesting new role. He’s starring in Aaron Sorkin’s upcoming film The Trial of the Chicago 7. Sacha is playing Abbie Hoffman, Seth Rogan is Jerry Rubin, and Eddie Redmayne is Tom Hayden. It’s NOT a comedy.

SACHA BARON COHEN KNOWS WHAT HE’S DOING

Sacha Baron Cohen can barely contain his smirk on the red carpet at the GQ Men of the Year Awards in London. We’re pretty sure he was hoping for some legal entanglements to publicize his Showtime Who is America series- and he got what he wanted. Roy Moore (he’s a former Alabama Supreme Court Chief who lost a run for the senate) was one of Cohen’s prank victims and he just filed a 95 million dollar lawsuit against Cohen and everyone involved. He claims Cohen implied he was a pedophile – in fact six women recently charged Moore with pursuing them when they were teens, so it’s a sore subject! A court battle might open up a giant can of worms for Moore- and loads of new viewers for Sacha’s series.

THE UPS AND DOWNS OF SACHA BARON COHEN

Isla Fisher can’t suppress her smile, but Sacha Baron Cohen looks rather grim walking out of Elton John’s birthday party. Maybe he’s remembering his last movie The Brothers Grimsby, which was a massive flop. We were huge fans of Ali G and consider Borat the funniest movie ever made. What happened? Sacha’s prank interviews with earnest politicians etc were beyond hilarious but everyone recognizes him now so he can’t get away with it. Also we think his comedy became TOO slapstick and dumbed down – aimed at teen boys. If ONLY he could star in the Freddie Mercury story – but he disagreed with band members who wanted Freddie to die in the middle of the movie, leaving the band to carry on without him. It would have been the perfect comeback role.

SACHA BARON COHEN HAS NEWS FOR DONALD TRUMP

We didn’t realize that Sacha Baron Cohen has been feuding with Donald Trump for thirteen years. It all started back in 2003 when Cohen, playing his character Ali G, coaxed Trump into doing an interview for his HBO show. It only lasted for 60 seconds and Trump walked off in a huff. He failed to see the humor in Cohen’s show and described Cohen as a “third-rate loser” and a “disgrace.” When Cohen playfully pranked Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet at the 2012 Oscars, Trump observed that Cohen should have been beaten to the ground by security guards. Cohen’s character in the upcoming movie Greed is a takeoff on the vulgar rich. He’s an over-tanned cutthroat billionaire businessman who stashes his money offshore to avoid taxes and lives a gold-plated lavish lifestyle. Sounds like fun.

THE REAL REASON THE BROTHERS GRIMSBY IS A FLOP

We are among those who think Borat was the smartest, funniest, and most original movie EVER. Borat’s hilarious psychological torment of well-meaning Americans is genius. And hard to live up to. Sacha Baron Cohen’s movies have been gradually becoming less interesting. The Brothers Grimsby has been publicized to death by the energetic Cohen, to no avail. Why? Because Cohen LOST HIS FEMALE AUDIENCE. His comedy degenerated from Borat’s brilliant satire on politically correct behavior to raunchy bathroom humor aimed at the teenage boy audience of Adam Sandler. Not to mention the fact that Grimsby is all about sports, action, and guns. Sacha Baron Cohen lost his most faithful core audience – women. As it turns out, the girls AND the boys went to see 10 Cloverfield Lane…
