Robert DeNiro

IT WAS DENIRO’S WORST PERFORMANCE

Despite the fact that we’ve been a lifetime fan of Robert DeNiro and and NEVER a fan of the President – we were appalled by DeNiro’s “F**k Trump” declarations at the Tony Awards, and further appalled by the audience’s cheering response. In what world are immature and vulgar comments on live TV like these acceptable, much less admired? DeNiro succeeded in making himself and the Hollywood “left” look glaringly awful to the multitudes of Trump voters watching the show. This can only strengthen their desire to vote him into a second term and further divide this nation! Nothing good can come from this immature and offensive behavior.

DENIRO AND CANNAVALE ARE CORRUPT TEAMSTERS IN “THE IRISHMAN”

Robert DeNiro is playing Frank “The Irishman” Sheehan and Bobby Cannavale is playing Joe Gallo on location in Queens, New York filming “The Irishman” with Martin Scorsese. The two “union bosses” are watching other Teamsters unload a truck full of beef. Mobster and hit man Sheehan wrote his memoirs before he died and detailed all his crimes through the years. Sheehan was responsible for Jimmy Hoffa’s disappearance and Bobby’s character Gallo ends up another one of Sheehan’s victims. Nice to see men without facial hair…

ROBERT DENIRO NEEDS THOSE EXTRA INCHES

Must be hard for observers to keep a straight face when Robert DeNiro films The Irishman wearing these high platforms. DeNiro’s character in the Scorsese film, is Frank “The Irishman“ Sheehan, the labor union mobster who killed the corrupt Teamsters Union President Jimmy Hoffa. Sheehan was 6’4” and towered over Hoffa, played by 5’7” Al Pacino. Martin Scorsese had a wardrobe of Tom Cruise style height enhancing footwear built for DeNiro.

IT’S NOT COMPLICATED – “THE INTERN” LOOKS LIKE A SURE THING

Now HERE’S a movie we can sink our teeth into! “The Intern” with Robert DeNiro and Anne Hathaway reminds us a tiny bit of “The Devil Wears Prada” and we can’t wait to visit that world again! Deniro plays a 70ish widower who is hired by Anne Hathaway’s online fashion site in their Senior Intern Program. Anne plays the CEO he reports to. It looks to be an amusing culture clash – brilliant writer/director Nancy Meyers rarely disappoints. Meyers’ last movie was “It’s Complicated” with Meryl Streep.

CAN ANNE HATHAWAY HAVE HER CAKE AND EAT IT TOO? NOPE…

If Anne Hathaway is still wondering why so many people seem to hate her online, here’s a possible reason. Page Six revealed that while filming “The Intern” in New York with Robert DeNiro (photo above,) Anne was supposed to take a bite of chocolate cake for one scene. She’s fussy about what she eats and insisted on having gluten-free vegan cake for her scene. An assistant from the prop department was immediately dispatched to FIND suitable cake and rushed back to the set with it as soon as possible. If the story is accurate, it won’t do anything to improve Anne’s likeability.

ROBERT DENIRO LOOKS LIKE A CASUAL SHOPPER – BUT DON’T JUMP TO CONCLUSIONS

We have NEVER seen a paparazzi photo of Robert Deniro shopping in a market so THIS was a surprise. But we soon learned this was a location shoot for the Nancy Meyers comedy “The Intern,” which sounds like it’ll be funny. Anne Hathaway plays the owner of an internet fashion business who learns that she is getting an intern. The intern turns out NOT to be a stylish college student, but an older man played by DeNiro. Surprisingly, the intern becomes a valuable assistant and the pair develop a friendly relationship.

ROBERT DENIRO’S TRIBUTE TO HIS GAY FATHER

article-2544188-1AE#deniro

Robert De Niro has really come a long way – earlier in his career he was impossibly “private” and avoided calling attention to himself. He was known for barely speaking in interviews. In the last few years he’s become much more accessible and social. Now he’s produced a very personal documentary about his father, who was a respected artist. De Niro’s father left his mother when Bob was 3 – many years later he learned that his father left because he was gay. Father and son remained close until his father died in 1993. De Niro narrates the film which presents his father’s work as well as his struggle with the realization he was gay in an unforgiving era. The movie, “Remembering The Artist Robert De Niro Sr,” is scheduled to air on HBO this summer.

ROBERT DENIRO DIDN’T WANT ANYONE TO KNOW WHAT HE WAS UP TO

This photo of Sheryl Lee Ralph reminded us of a funny story. Sheryl, who has dimples that rival Mario Lopez’s, had an amusing but top secret fling with Robert DeNiro back in the 90’s. A security guard working in fancy New York hotel called us one night and laughingly told us that DeNiro was in the hotel lobby that very minute having a tantrum. The hotel didn’t permit late night visitors to go up in the elevator until the person they were visiting came down to get them. No matter how much DeNiro argued and blustered, the hotel manager would not budge. Finally DeNiro called upstairs and Sheryl Lee Ralph came down in a bathrobe and high heels to get him. DeNiro was angry because his tryst was no longer a secret. And he was even MORE furious when we wrote about it in Star magazine. His publicist threatened to sue everyone – even the hotel, but eventually dropped the matter. A few years later we ran in to Sheryl while doing a show at the E! channel and she giggled and admitted the story was quite accurate! (Sheryl is now happily married to a Pennsylvania state senator.)

MICHELLE PFEIFFER AND ROBERT DENIRO: HOLLYWOOD ROYALTY

We just love this photo of two Hollywood icons looking just the way we want them to look – as if they’re having a good time. Michelle Pfeiffer never ceases to amaze because at 55, she looks decades younger. And there’s no evidence of surgical enhancement! Michelle and Robert DeNiro are in Rio de Janeiro for the premier of “The Family” – or as the locals call it, “Malavita.”

HBO LURED ANOTHER BIGTIME MOVIE STAR TO TV: ROBERT DENIRO

Another first. Following in Michael Douglas’s footsteps, Robert DeNiro has agreed to star in “Criminal Justice,” a seven episode mini series for HBO. He’s taking the role the late James Gandolfini was originally signed to play. It’s the story of an ambulance chasing personal injury lawyer who finds himself in a heap of trouble when he takes on a murder case. We have a feeling this is going to be really good because it was written by Richard Price, who wrote one of our favorite movies, “The Wanderers.”
