TAN FRANCE: FIRST OUT GAY MUSLIM ON TV?

To think we almost FORGOT how amazing Tan France’s hair is! He has the pompadour of a lifetime- what a head of hair! The Queer Eye star, 36, lives up to his billing as a fashion expert. Tan was born Tanveer Safdar in the UK to Pakistani parents and he grew up gay in a Muslim family. (You can read more about THAT in his book Naturally Tan.) He studied design in college and worked in the fashion industry (including Chanel) until he married an illustrator named Rob France (hence the last name.) They live together in Salt Lake City. Today Tan was in New York visiting the Stephen Colbert show.

QUEER EYE IS COMING BACK FOR A LAST LOOK!

Bravo’s first smash hit reality show back in 2003 was “Queer Eye For the Straight Guy” and we LOVED the way these stylish gay men would take over a rumpled straight man’s dismal life and teach him how to groom himself, entertain, and LIVE in general. It was like a quickie charm school. (We’ve often thought about opening a charm school for men) Anyway, according to Deadline.com The Fab Five, Thom Filicia, Ted Allen, Carson Kressley, Jai Rodriguez, and Kyan Douglas, are coming back for a night on the “Queer Eye Reunion: 10 Years Later.Andy Cohen will talk to the guys about how the show changed their lives and reveal some behind the scenes gossip on Bravo in October.

QUEER EYE REUNION?

One of the earliest reality shows,Queer Eye For the Straight Guy” was the surprise hit that put the Bravo network on the map. It ran from 2003 to 2008 – other countries tried to create their own versions of the show but they weren’t successful. The show’s gay “experts” Tom Filicia, (home décor) Carson Kressley, (fashion) Kyan Douglas, (grooming guru) Ted Allen, (food and wine connoisseur)and Jai Rodriguez (culture and relationships) gave an awkward straight man a total makeover every week – much to the amusement of female viewers. Our gossip pal CJ from the Star-Tribune, chatted with Thom Filicia, who pointed out that this summer is the ten year anniversary of the Emmy winning Queer Eye and a reunion of some kind is in the works. CJ remarked that the Housewives franchise likes to take credit for Bravo’s success, but Queer Eye really started them off. Thom joked “We feel like bad parents and “The Housewives” are our children – we’re NOT really proud!
