Phil Spector

NO ONE IS MOURNING THE LOSS OF PHIL SPECTOR

There’s no denying that in his early years Phil Spector wrote and produced some delightful music. We LOVED the Ronettes, Ike and Tina, and The Righteous Brothers. His “wall of sound” enhanced everything he created. There is reason to celebrate his music, but certainly NOT his life. Most of his wives and girlfriends described him as an abusive monster who thought nothing of pulling out a gun if they spurned his advances. In fact, guns and alcohol were the center of his universe long before he murdered Lana Clarkson. We had a Phil Spector experience back in the 90’s at a Christmas party at Joan Rivers home in Manhattan. When the party started (we were always the first to arrive and last to leave) Spector was quiet and standoffish. But the more he drank, the louder and bossier he became. Finally Joan had to take action to calm him down. Fortunately he didn’t pull out a gun, but it was obvious he had a very problematic personality. No surprise that he was convicted of murder, but he only got 19 years and was eligible for parole in 2024. His MUSIC will be fondly remembered.

YOU CAN COUNT ON HELEN MIRREN – AL PACINO, NOT SO MUCH

Helen Mirren has lived up to all our expectations. As you may recall she starred in the HBO movie Phil Spector with Al Pacino and just received a SAG award for her performance. Hollywood publicist Edward Lozzi was a friend of Lana Clarkson, who was killed by Phil Spector, and since day one Lozzi objected to the unethical script to the movie, which inaccurately and incredibly left doubt about Spector’s guilt. Lozzi had contacted the cast and crew involved in the Spector movie about his script concerns and Helen was the ONLY person to respond. She told Ed that the script was in no way demeaning to victim Lana Clarkson. Ed ran into Helen at the SAG awards and she took time to talk to him. She reiterated the fact that she made sure here was nothing derogatory about Lana in the script and that it was important to her. Lozzi was impressed by her sincerity and concern. We’re happy that Phil Spector is still locked up.

WARNING: READ THIS BEFORE YOU WATCH THE “PHIL SPECTOR” MOVIE ON HBO

Why David Mamet would write a screenplay about Phil Spector and imply that he might not be guilty of killing Lana Clarkson is a mystery to us and many other people. We’ve never been a fan of Mamet, but this is an insult to the innocent victim and the California justice system – and journalistically unethical. The late Clarkson’s publicist Ed Lozzi has been tirelessly protesting the script and arranged a demonstration at a recent screening of the HBO movie airing Sunday. LA Times reporter Harriet Ryan, who painstakingly covered both of Spector’s murder trials agrees that the script is laughably inaccurate and ignores the facts that got Spector convicted. It actually hints that he didn’t pull the trigger! It’s frightening to think that viewers’ opinions of Spector might soften and they shouldn’t. The fact that Al Pacino is excellent in the role and the movie is top quality otherwise, only makes it worse. Click HERE to read Ryan’s story BEFORE you see the movie.

PHIL SPECTOR GOT WHAT HE DESERVED

We’re not fans of writer David Mamet to begin with, so when we heard that he attempts to create a little doubt about Phil Spector’s guilt in the murder of Lana Clarkson in his HBO movie, we were turned off, but not enough to keep us from seeing the movie. Maybe Mamet thought he needed some “conflict” to liven up the film. But Phil Spector’s life offers plenty of entertainment and his guilt is not debatable. We were fascinated to meet Phil at a party at Joan Rivers’ New York apartment back in the 90’s. He was obviously an egomaniac and an unstable character – whether drunk or sober. The jury got it right when they locked him up.

WE HAVEN’T SEEN THE LAST OF PHIL SPECTOR

Who IS this familiar looking guy? It’s Al Pacino made up to resemble Phil Spector for his yet-untitled HBO movie. He probably has a whole room just for his wigs in this project because Spector’s coiffure changed radically over the years. We met the very scary Spector at a Christmas party back in the late 90’s at Joan Rivers’ house (he was dating her assistant) and he was very loud and bossy and guzzled creme de menthe. He made Joan rather nervous. But he did play the piano.

40 YEARS SEPARATE AL PACINO AND HIS MODEL GIRLFRIEND

Despite playing “Dr Death” Jack Kevorkian in his last HBO movie, Al Pacino, 71, continues to score with the ladies. He’s been seeing Argentina-born swimsuit model Lucila Sola, 31 for the past year. The forty year age difference doesn’t seem to matter. Lucila and her young daughter live with Al at his Beverly Hills home. Above, he’s busy playing murderer Phil Spector in another HBO extravaganza, and she’s doing a swimsuit layout in Italy.

AL PACINO IS BEING FITTED FOR WIGS TO PLAY PHIL SPECTOR FOR HBO

Nobody plays eccentrics better than Al Pacino – as he reminded us in his HBO movie “You Don’t Know Jack” (about Dr Jack >Kervorkian) last year. Now he’s about to sink his teeth into the role of music mogul/murderer Phil Spector for HBO, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Spector’s life is a glut of success and excess – he produced hit records while keeping his wife Ronnie locked up as a prisoner and ended up in jail for shooting Lana Clarkson. Hollywood hairdressers will be competing to work on this film because the wide variety of Spector wigs are such an important part of his story development.

LINDSAY LOHAN KEPT ALL OF HER EXTENSIONS IN JAIL

When Phil Spector had to check his wig at the jail entrance and Paris Hilton had to surrender her hair extensions, we figured Lindsay Lohan would be forced to give up her fake hair when she checked into jail. She DIDN’T, and jail officials were accused of giving her preferential treatment. Jailers responded that Lindsay‘s extensions were permanently attached to the roots of her hair while Paris’s extensions were clip-ons (her own brand DreamCatchers) and Spector’s hair was not attached to his head either. And we were SO looking forward to seeing Lindsay’s natural hair….. Apparently eyelash extensions are not an issue in jail.

PHIL SPECTOR’S WIFE RACHELLE GOT HERSELF A NEW CD

Jailbird Phil Spector’s wife Rachelle is getting her wish: her new CD (called “Out of My Chelle”) is being released this summer and Phil is credited as producer. Rachelle, a 29 year old singer, and Spector, 70, met a Dan Tana’s restaurant a few months after Lana Clarkson was shot to death, and Rachelle claimed she had no idea who he was. She married him in 2006 before his first hung-jury trial. Supposedly they worked on her album until he was convicted of second-degree MURDER in his second trial. Spector told friends he was minimally involved in her recording process, but Rachelle insists he was her inspiration. Her pop album is being released on her own label Genius4Ever – she maintains Phil is innocent, and REALLY wants to be a star.

PHIL SPECTOR WAS EVEN WORSE THAN YOU THOUGHT

Our insightful colleague, Linda Stasi, the TV critic at the NY Post, brought a fascinating investigation to our attention. On Thursday night the Discovery channel show “True Crime with Aphrodite Jones” is all about Phil Spector, who is currently incarcerated for killing Lana Clarkson. As Linda says, “to know him is to hate him.” Footage of Spector’s police interrogation on the night Lana Clarkson was killed is appalling – he’s irate because Lana, a girl he just met, “blew her head open at his castle” and left him accused of murder. There’s also some revealing footage of Spector taken by his former assistant in which he says “What was her motive for taking her own life? I don’t know and I really don’t care!” The show also reveals that Spector got a facelift between his two trials. This should be gratifying viewing for anyone who was happy to see Spector locked up.
