WORST DRESSED AT MET GALA: KATY PERRY

Worst Dressed at the Met Gala was easy this year- it’s a slam dunk for Katy Perry. We love Katy, but fashion is simply not her “thing.” She likes to have fun with it and admits that she takes a lot of fashion risks but has no regrets. After all, in past years she came to the gala dressed as a cheeseburger and a chandelier, and Tom Ford called her out for it. This year she promised a “different” look and she resembles a bawdy saloon dancer in the wild west. There’s nothing flattering about this look – from the head scarf to the bustle – and we cannot IMAGINE what designer will admit responsibility …

OUR FAVORITE MET GALA LOOK: PETE DAVIDSON

Just SEEING Pete Davidson SO out of his element at The Met Gala – and wearing a SKIRT- made the whole evening worthwhile. His Thom Browne outfit was original and totally unexpected. At least Pete resisted the urge to wear a TRAIN, which most of the women and a surprising number of men did not. Rihanna stole the night in her long train on that museum staircase a few years ago and designers REMEMBERED. Now loooong trains are a dime a dozen, making socializing at the party inside difficult, at best. (We don’t think clothing should interfere with having FUN!) Our favorite train of the night belonged to Lil Nas X and, sadly, the worst train was worn by Debbie Harry.

WHY KRISTEN STEWART HAS A BOUNCE IN HER STEP

Lucky Kristen Stewart is literally dancing on air on her way to New York’s Carlyle Hotel to prepare for the Met Gala tonight. (Chanel tonight? designers love to dress her…) She’s on a roll- her movie about Princess Diana, Spencer, debuted at the Venice Film Festival to decent reviews- she was justifiably nervous about that one. The Twilight star is now 31- back in 2012 she was the highest paid actress in Hollywood. Her romance with costar Rob Pattinson fizzled, but after two years together, she’s seriously in love with screenwriter Dylan Meyer and marriage is not off the table. We’re expecting Dylan will be her Plus One tonight on the red carpet…

KIM KARDASHIAN: GETTING IN THE MOOD FOR THE MET GALA

Wow- Kim Kardashian has been heavily influenced by Kanye West’s Donda album events. Kanye hired Balenciaga designer Demna Guasalia to design the event and the fashion for his album listening parties and black leather was all over the place. Not to mention over the head masks. Kim’s custom leather mask was made by an expert with amusing details – zippers for the eyes, a hole for her pony tail and little ear rings, but NO mouth opening. It’s amazing what some people will do for attention. And this is the day BEFORE the Met Gala…

JULIA ROBERTS: MAYBE NEXT YEAR I CAN WEAR THIS

Julia Roberts posted this gorgeous Vogue photo to lament the cancellation of the Met Gala this year. Many celebrities and designers eagerly anticipate this yearly extravaganza (We even went a few times back in the 90’s before it became the big deal it is today.) Of course the ball was cancelled due to the pandemic, so a lot of people are melancholy and their beautiful dresses will just have to wait…

PROOF THAT THE MET GALA HAS GOTTEN OUT OF HAND

This is SIX year old actress Lexi Rabe – she plays Millie Bobby Brown’s character as a child in Godzilla: King of the Monsters. She’s posing with her costar Tyler Crumley at the movie premier in Hollywood, but what’s noteworthy is the crazily abundant and fluffy train on her EVENING GOWN! What do you suppose inspired this cute child to dress like a wealthy woman? And what’s next – hair extensions, waist cinchers, and false eyelashes?

SERENA WILLIAMS MARRIED THE RIGHT GUY

After last night’s glamorous appearance at the Met Gala, Serena Williams spent the day in Manhattan with her doting husband Alexis Ohanian and their cute 20 month old daughter Alexis Jr. They did a little shopping and took a walk in Central park. Thanks in part to her helpful husband, Serena has been able to actively pursue her tennis career without ever spending a full day away from their little girl.

NAOMI CAMPBELL: STILL SIZZLING THE DAY AFTER

While a lot of New York celebs are nursing hangovers today, sleeping late, or racing to the airport, Naomi Campbell is up bright and early tending to business. She got a lot of attention last night at the Met Gala, not just for her glamorous attire, but also because she had a man next to her fanning her all evening. An assistant, we presume. Naomi has a checkered history with assistants. She does look fresh and fabulous today in her carwash skirt and sneakers.

IS THE MET GALA SPIRALING OUT OF CONTROL?

Are we crazy or is the Met Gala turning into a vulgar display of self-indulgence? Each costume seems to be bigger, longer, more elaborate and MORE EXPENSIVE ! How LONG can a train be? How many exquisite feathers can be hand sewn onto a gown? If you attempt to calculate the cost of most decadent gowns, the result is financially STAGGERING. Besides being difficult to manage up the stairway entrance to the Met, how awkward must these get-ups be while trying to socialize at the party? Ezra Miller had a clever idea – he held an amazing mask of his own face, but even HE had a mile long train. Model Cara Delevingne, above, had fun without screaming for attention – she painted stripes on her legs to match her dress. How did this fun fashion event turn into a “look at me- I spent more money than you did!” contest?

HOLD ON TIGHT- LADY GAGA HAS BIG PLANS FOR THE MET GALA

Being single never stopped Lady Gaga from having a good time – in fact, it brings out her eccentricity. This is the outfit she wore to the dinner BEFORE the Met Gala Monday night. Apparently she wants everybody to get worked up, imagining what she’ll wear to the fashion extravaganza where there’s an overload of stylish competition. Notice her tiny handbag – surely she has a handsome security guard carrying her essentials…
