MATTHEW MCCONAUGHEY WAS IN NO HURRY TO GET MARRIED

Matthew McConaughey ,53, and his Brazilian model wife Camila Alves,43, were guests at the Gran Prix races in France, and from the way he holds her hand, they look very together. They met in 2006 and their first son Levi was born in 2008. Matthew was happily unmarried and didn’t want to jinx it by actually tying the knot. (He admired Kurt and Goldie’s relationship.) But in 2010 after their daughter Vida was born, Camila gave Matthew an ultimatum: it’s now or never. Matthew admitted he didn’t want to do it just because it was the RIGHT thing to do – he wanted to WANT to get married. After talking to both divorced and happily married friends, he decided he DID want to, and they married in 2012 with no regrets so far…

MATTHEW MCCONAUGHEY QUARANTINES IN ALL THE RIGHT PLACES

We feel more than a twinge of envy for Matthew McConaughey’s new $7.85 million dollar vacation home in Hawaii. The 7000 sq ft home sits on an acre with magnificent ocean views and a huge infinity pool. 6 bedrooms and 6 1/2 bathrooms, including TWO master suites and a media room. Matthew pulled his 89 year old mother Kay out of her retirement community during the pandemic, and she’s been quarantining with Matthew, his wife Camila, their three kids, and four dogs. Luckily, his mom and Camila struck up nice friendship. We have a feeling mom will be claiming that second master.

TO GUY RITCHIE, IT’S STILL A MAN’S WORLD

It’s been awhile since we’ve seen an all-male movie made BY men FOR men, but Guy Ritchie is still promoting machismo. Of course, we were initially intrigued by The Gentlemen because of the attractive male cast and Ritchie’s amusing fast way of cutting his scenes- no wasted time. Too bad the men all had scraggly facial hair and Hugh Grant even managed to look like a worn-out Al Pacino. The plot is all about incredibly egotistical and greedy men attempting to outsmart each other. It’s funny, but reeks of testosterone. The actors have such thick cockney accents that it’s difficult to understand anything except the startling abundance of profanity. (More than we’ve ever heard in any film) Stomach churning violence abounds and when Michelle Dockery’s little used character appears, she acts just like a man. So maybe this film is your cup of tea, or maybe not…

MATTHEW MCCONAUGHEY IS A PAUNCHY BUSINESSMAN

Matthew McConaughey seems to be pulling a Johnny Depp in his currently filming movie “Gold.” His character is balding and has packed on a few pounds. (Hopefully, this is NOT what Matthew’s wife Camilla has to look forward to in the future.) In the movie, Matthew plays an unlucky businessman who gets involved in a mining corporation scandal in the 90’s. The company claimed they discovered a large gold deposit in Indonesia and stock prices skyrocketed. It turned out to be a fraud and the company collapsed. Matthew’s character does get to spend some time in the Indonesian jungles of Borneo, although he doesn’t look physically fit for such an adventure.

TICKET BUYER BEWARE: “INTERSTELLAR” IS NOT FOR EVERYONE

If you are one of the people who’s had just about enough of Matthew McConaughey, you will absolutely LOATHE him after you see Interstellar. It’s nearly three hours of technical gibberish punctuated by excruciatingly loud music to emphasize the melodrama. The “story” is practically incomprehensible and seems like it will NEVER end. Sorry, but giant machines floating in outer space just don’t thrill us any more. And Matthew’s arrogant Texas attitude doesn’t make the movie easier to swallow. It was TORTURE to sit through. There, we said it.

THE MOVIE “MUD” IS WAY BETTER THAN THE TITLE SUGGESTS

If you get a chance to see the movie “Mud” with Matthew McConaughey and Reese Witherspoon, DO IT! It’s an engrossing story about two 14 year old boys who live in rural Georgia on an island in the Mississippi River. This is a coming of age adventure and a peek into another culture and a different world. Walking out, we felt like we’d just read a great book. (And we are NOT usually fans of Matthew. He and Reese will surprise you in this movie) ) All the characters are very real – they’re not all good, but you can empathize with each of them. Give this movie a chance – it is a real gem and well worth the price of admission. It may still be playing at small theaters or get the video.

JAKE GYLLENHAAL: HE USED TO BE PRETTY

Wow! Jake Gyllenhaal looks about 20 years older in this photo from the set of “Nightcrawler.” In the movie he plays a news reporter hungry for a big scoop, who discovers an underground world of freelance crime journalism in Los Angeles. According to Jake he’s lost only “a little over 20 pounds” but it looks like he’s underestimating to us. He’s joined the Matthew McConaughey club of guys who dieted away their good looks.
