Leonard Cohen

LEONARD COHEN NEVER LOOKED LIKE A JERK IN A BASEBALL CAP

What are we going to miss MOST about the late Leonard Cohen? The fact that he always dressed like a MAN, not a boy. We never ONCE saw Cohen wearing the object we hate MOST: the dreaded BASEBALL CAP! The baseball cap should only be worn by boys playing ball or desperate men losing their hair, occasionally on the beach, and NEVER indoors. If we never had to look at another dopey man-boy in a baseball cap and cargo shorts the world would be a better place.

LEONARD COHEN: THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES

When he was young, Leonard Cohen looked like a cross between Al Pacino in Serpico and Dustin Hoffman in Midnight Cowboy. In a jeans and t-shirt world, he was always dressed up in a cool vintage looking suit. That’s what first attracted us to him. That and the song I’m Your Man. That gravely one-of-a-kind voice. We saw him in concert and along with an equally smitten girlfriend, would often deliberately drive past a house on Olympic Blvd where we believed he lived, hoping he might be sitting outside enjoying the weather. We heard he sometimes shopped at Ralph’s on 3rd and fantasized about bumping into him. It’s wonderful that he released an album just a week ago.

LEONARD COHEN IS ALIVE AND WELL AND SHOPPING AT RALPH’S

We’ve been wondering what Leonard Cohen has been up to since he rescheduled his European tour from March to this September because of a back injury. He’s 76, (Imagine that! We have a crush on a 76 year old man!) but it looks like he’s healthy enough to continue that tour. We were so jealous when a spy saw him shopping at our local Ralph’s supermarket on 3rd street. Leonard shopped alone, wearing a sport jacket and hat, and when he carried his groceries back to his car, our spy noted that the license plate read: IMURMAN.

FAYE DUNAWAY HAS A THING FOR LEONARD COHEN

The last time we wrote about Faye Dunaway dining, she was wearing plastic gloves and carefully weighing her chicken and broccoli at Koo Koo Roo. But she seems to have gotten a grip on her odd food habits because she had a very pleasant meal of prawns and chicken at Philippe in West Hollywood. Faye and a female friend enjoyed their food and discussed Leonard Cohen. Both agreed they love his music, and Faye admitted that she had a crush on the 76 year old singer.

LEONARD COHEN TO ANJANI THOMAS: I’M YOUR MAN

Hard to imagine, but there ARE a substantial number of women out there who have a crush on a 75 year old man -specifically Leonard Cohen. If you’ve been to one of his concerts, you know this is true. His fans don’t get a lot of personal information about him and they’re always interested in his love life, which continues to flourish. An informant of ours spotted the mysterious Mr Cohen shopping in Ralph’s market on 3rd and La Brea in Los Angeles. He was wearing a suit and a fedora and walking beside his girlfriend Anjani Thomas, who was pushing the shopping cart. Hawaii born Anjani is also a singer and songwriter and they collaborate in more ways than one.

LEONARD COHEN: HE’S STILL OUR MAN

We’re relieved to report that Leonard Cohen, 75, is out of the hospital and able to continue performing on tour. On Friday he fainted onstage in Valencia, Spain, and was hospitalized with stomach complaints. He was released a day later and his next concert is scheduled in Barcelona on Monday. We saw Leonard’s excellent show in Los Angeles and were amazed by his rigorous two and a half hour performance. He is active onstage almost the entire time. His energy was impressive, but the lengthy tour might be catching up with him. He’ll be back in the USA at Sunrise, Florida on October 17.
