Jimmy Fallon

JIMMY FALLON: STILL A BIG KID

We love this then-and-now combination portrait of Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon today, and as a child. He hasn’t changed all that much. Same earnest fun-loving smile. It’s easy to imagine him getting down on the floor to play with his kids. Jimmy just weathered a big storm – his blackface skit from his days on SNL surfaced. Immediately there were online demands for him to be cancelled! Jamie Foxx defended his friend with “We got bigger fish to fry.” Jimmy spent a show making heartfelt apologies and discussing his “personal evolution” since the SNL event. He did the right thing… and still has his job.

JIMMY FALLON WAS ALMOST FAMOUS HIMSELF WHEN HE MADE THE MOVIE

What surprised us about the crush Jimmy Fallon admitted he had on Kate Hudson while they were filming Almost Famous in 1998 is not that he was too shy to ask her out. We were totally surprised that he was even IN the film! We looked up his character and indeed, it was Jimmy’s first feature film role and he played a young know-it-all road manager. (1998 is also the year Jimmy debuted on SNL- so he wasn’t famous – yet) The movie took place in the early 70’s so Jimmy’s character wore big aviator glasses, a bad haircut, and a mustache – no WONDER he didn’t catch 19 year old Kate’s attention at the time…

IT’S CLEAR THAT JIMMY FALLON HAS THE JOB OF HIS DREAMS

A paparazzi followed Jimmy Fallon from a distance as he walked a few blocks to work in New York. Jimmy was cheerful and stopped several times to acknowledge people saying hello and chat with strangers. How many celebrities would take the time to greet people on the street? Jimmy seems to be the happiest of all talk show hosts – and the least neurotic. Ya gotta love him.

TIGHT PANTS: JIMMY FALLON MADE JENNIFER LOPEZ SEEM LOVABLE!

Last night we realized why Jimmy Fallon is so irresistible – he brings the best of SNL to the Tonight show. With no introduction, he suddenly appeared in a Beatle wig, tight white pants and white boots, dancing and singing the “Tight Pants” song. It was odd and very funny. Just as abruptly a female in a similar outfit and Beatle wig danced out singing about HER tight pants and we almost didn’t recognize Jennifer Lopez! The duet was SO unexpected and amusing. Jimmy brings out the best in people, doesn’t he? We can’t get the “Tight Pants” song out of our heads….

JIMMY FALLON WANTS HIS AUDIENCE TO BE SITTING PRETTY

Jimmy Fallon has more of an eye for detail that we would have expected. Not only did he approve each step as his new Tonight Show set was built, but he took the comfort of the audience into consideration. Usually, audience seating at talk shows is hard and cramped. According to Mike Walker at The Enquirer, Jimmy told NBC that he wanted the most comfortable seats any talk show has ever had. The network spent $1500 to reupholster each seat with cushiony red leather so he has the happiest audience in town.

JIMMY FALLON IS THRILLED TO BE A MR MOM

Five years of struggling and disappointment made Jimmy Fallon REALLY appreciate finally having a baby daughter. Jimmy, 38, and his wife Nancy Juvoven, 46, tried various doctors and treatments without success until they finally had a surrogate give birth to their child Winnie last month. Jimmy admits “I’m so happy, I’m freaking out!” He also finds it very difficult to be separated from little Winnie and is drawing up plans for a nursery at the studio where he tapes his talk show.

DID SETH MEYERS’ TRIUMPH BRUISE HOWARD STERN’S EGO?

We couldn’t help but wonder why Seth Meyers was selected to take over Jimmy Fallon’s Late Night show instead of Howard Stern. In March, Howard was described in the New York Post as “being prepped’ to take over Jimmy’s vacated spot. Other media sources agreed that the “king of all media” was a top contender and it seemed highly probable – until you take a closer look. While Howard is a great interviewer, he’s not accustomed to doing monologues or preparing scripted comedy skits. Seth has been head writer on SNL for years and does the Weekend Update segment. Maybe Howard asked for too much money – he’s accustomed to gigantic paydays, or maybe Howard doesn’t want a five day a week high pressure job. Whatever, we think Stern will turn up with a late night talk show someday, somewhere…

HOWARD STERN MIGHT CHANGE LATE NIGHT TV FOREVER

If Howard Stern takes over Jimmy Fallon’s timeslot as a late night host when and if Jimmy replaces Leno, it will be a first. Late night talk show hosts have almost without exception been experienced standup comics, and occasionally improvisational comics. While Howard is undeniably funny, he’s no joke teller, so his show will be radically different from what we’re accustomed to, and that might be a good thing – or a bad thing. We know he’s great at interviewing celebrities, but is that enough? Probably. We have a feeling Howard will be a breath of late night fresh air.
