“FLIGHT” IS DENZEL’S BEST MOVIE SINCE “TRAINING DAY”

No one plays a villain better than Denzel Washington. Mostly because he can be so charming that you don’t realize he’s a bad guy right away – and by the time you do, it’s too late. His dirty cop in Training Day was unforgettable and his role in “Flight” is even more complex. In the movie he starts off as a swaggering heroic pilot and gradually the layers are peeled off to reveal a belligerent defensive addict in denial. An egotistical and malevolent force. We watch in horror as his private life is revealed to be unraveling and he keeps repeating his mistakes. Denzel’s performance is bigger than the albeit entertaining movie, and if anyone deserves an Oscar nomination he does.

DON’T BOTHER DENZEL WASHINGTON WHEN HE’S SHOPPING

We’re betting the paparazzi who caught Denzel Washington shopping at Bristol Farms was shooting with a long lens because the actor looks like he’s in no mood for posing. Denzel has an exciting movie coming out in the fall – “Flight” – about a heroic pilot inspired by Sully Sullenberger, who miraculously crash lands safely and saves his passengers, but is later found to have been drinking the night before

NOW THAT HE’S SINGLE, ASHTON KUTCHER IS PLANNING A SPACE FLIGHT

About to be single Ashton Kutcher is doing all the things a wife might frown upon – most recently he signed up to become a space traveler. British billionaire Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic company has been taking reservations for their first space flights and Ashton is the 500th customer to book a flight. The spaceport is located in New Mexico. Branson’s space ships are in the final stages of testing and he and his family will be on the first flight. The trip costs $200,000 and passengers are taken to the boundary of the earth’s atmosphere where they will be weightless for six minutes. The whole ride lasts around three and a half hours but requires three days of pre-flight training. Exciting, if you can afford it.

OCTOMOM NADYA SULEMAN IS NOT FAMILIAR WITH COMMON COURTESY

We have to admit we were appalled by the Octomom Nadya Suleman’s attitude on that flight back from New York after she appeared on the Today Show. The show generously put Nadya and 12 kids in business class but the flight was delayed for two hours and the kids were screaming and howling. When Kristen Johnston came back from first class to complain about the noise, Octomom did NOT apologize – she belligerently asked “How do you expect me to control eight 2 year olds?” Johnston logically replied “Get help!” before she exited the plane. Nadya COULD have flown coach and paid for help, but apparently she’s arrogant and thinks the world should cater to her because she‘s a mother. Her final comment says it all: “I guess there’s some people that don’t like kids.” Hey Nadya – NO ONE likes kids with ignorant parents that allow them to run wild! Get a grip and get some manners!

ASHLEY OLSEN TOASTED “BEING ALIVE” AFTER HER UNSCHEDULED LANDING

According to our eyewitness, Ashley Olsen remained calm during her close call on that Ny to LA United flight that had to make an “unscheduled” landing at Dulles Airport. “Ashley had four seats in a row in business class – one for her, her boyfriend Justin Bartha, her French bulldog puppy, and her bodyguard. The people in first class were really frightened because they saw the flames and smoke coming out of the cockpit.” Attendants raced around grabbing fire extinguishers, but passenger Phil Lobel, (traveling with his adorable dog Lucy) a Hollywood publicist, told us he didn’t realize how serious the situation was until he saw all the firetrucks and emergency equipment waiting for them at Dulles airport. The passengers, including Ashley, all met in the bar to toast “being alive” after the successful landing.
