Just as we were thinking “Whatever happened to Jim Carrey?” he happened to post this photo on Instagram which answered all our questions. WHY he posted this is unknown but we assume it’s a recent picture. The last time we saw Jim on TV (or anywhere) was Dec, 2019, when he appeared on Saturday Night Live imitating Joe Biden. After that, Alex Moffat took over the job. Around that time Carrey and his girlfriend, actress Ginger Gonzaga, also ended their relationship. Maybe that’s when Jim started growing this horrible grey beard. We urge Jim to shave it off ASAP- nothing good is likely to happen in his life until he does!

It was just last summer that we saw those dreadful photos of Matthew Perry looking overweight, disheveled, and chain-smoking, wobblily visiting a medical building with his “sober coach.” (He has a history of addiction to methadone, vicoden, methamphetamines, and alcohol) He also had those whiskers that make many men look like transients. Magically, in December he announced that he was engaged to 29 year old literary manager Molly Hurwitz. He has also managed to pull himself together enough to film the Friends reunion and right now he’s filming Don’t Look Up with Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence. His fans are concerned about his appearance on the Friends reunion – if he’s smart he’ll shave off that stubble ASAP. But WHY is he selling his own collection of hoodys and t-shirts? The hoody he’s wearing in the photo above is $44.99, by the way…

OK, we were officially HORRIFIED when we saw this publicity photo for the upcoming CW series, Superman & Lois. We are talking about Superman’s rough looking whiskers! It’s bad enough to see men on the street with this unshaven look, but SUPERMAN!!! The Superman character is intended to be clean-cut, an idealized man. Not a shifty gangster. The actor, Tyler Hoechlin, 33, is handsome enough, and he has the shiny black hair and physique. But the whiskers ruin the image. There’s been a lot of talk about the updated Superman costume, but the real issue is the not-so-clean looking face!

Charlie Hunnam arrived at a social event at Chateau Marmont looking like THIS – which is to say, displaying few of his charms. Perhaps, the Sons of Anarchy star grew facial hair for the series because he had such a cute face that he needed to look rougher. But Anarchy is long past, and we want our handsome Charlie back! He’s obviously grown dependent on that face foliage and he even covered up his great head of hair with a hat – to go to this party. He doesn’t want to be noticed, but Charlie is 39 now and it’s time to enjoy his good looks, which will not last forever.

The opinionated Karl Lagerfeld left behind many quotes – one of our favorites is “Sweatpants are a sign of defeat” – implying that people who wear sweatpants have given up. It’s quite possible that nice looking men who aren’t as young as they used to be GROW GREY BEARDS for the same reason! Kurt Russell is probably still an attractive man, but it’s easier to look like Santa Claus than shave and get haircuts. Poor Goldie…

We like to reminisce about the original unbearded George Clooney back in the day (actually not so long ago) when he was a handsome man unfettered by facial hair. Luckily, for his wife Amal, George grew this bushy beard for his role in Good Morning, Midnight – in which he plays a scientist alone in the Arctic, who’s trying to make contact with a spacecraft. George is directing himself in the movie, which is not necessarily a good thing because we’ve never liked any of the films he’s directed. But we DO miss that cute smile…

A full-figured Russell Crowe showed up in Rome for a festive event involving his 2000 epic Gladiator. While the movie was projected on a big screen, a symphony orchestra played the Oscar nominated score. A nice way to spend a summer evening. Russell, 54, has changed a LOT since he made that movie, but he seems unconcerned. The bushy gray beard isn’t helping his looks any – he’s certainly hiding any indication that he was once a hot guy. Maybe his divorce made him less concerned about his looks (?) – or maybe that old adage applies – his condition is the result of having money and too much free time…

As beards go, we’ve seen much worse examples than this facial hair sported by Esai Morales. Of course this grey beard IS hiding the face of one of the better looking actors in Hollywood, so it’s still a nuisance. We remember Esai’s Smoothly handsome face in 80’s movies Bad Boys and La Bamba – more recently NYPD Blue. He’s always been political – Esai is a National Board Member for SAG-AFTRA and he ran for president of the union this year.
