DAVID BOWIE AND TILDA SWINTON : INTERCHANGEABLE?

At first glance, this photo thoroughly confused me. It was captioned David Bowie and Tilda Swinton – but it looked like two strangers.  Turns out David and Tilda did a video together in 2013 called The Stars (Are Out Tonight) and David is dressed like Tilda’s character in the video, and vice-versa.  Yes, it IS them- in drag. There’s a strong resemblance between the two, and they both acknowledged it. Tilda observed that they looked like they both came from the same planet.

DAVID BOWIE MONOPOLY FOR VALENTINES DAY?

Valentines Day approaches, and if you have a significant other, it’s nice to present him or her with a significant token of your appreciation. Anyone who’s a David Bowie fan is likely to fall in love with this not-so-usual gift. It’s a David Bowie Monopoly game and the winner will become a music superstar. Instead of real estate like Boardwalk, this game features Bowie albums that a player can buy. After securing albums, players can buy stages and stadiums that other players can “rent” when they roll into town. The movable tokens are items from Bowie history, like a lightening bolt or space helmet. Familiar situations like Free Parking and Go To Jail are included in this game, now selling for from $60 to $80. Keep in mind, someday this game might become a highly collectible item and appear on a future Antiques Roadshow …

IT’S 1977, AND IGGY POP AND DAVID BOWIE ARE ON THE DINAH SHORE SHOW!!!

Iggy Pop & David Bowie – The Dinah! Show – Complete – 1977 from Nacho's Productions on Vimeo.

Wow – our brainy and obsessive friends at Dangerous Minds excavated this fascinating video from 1977 of Iggy Pop and David Bowie introducing punk rock to talk show host Dinah Shore and her other guest Rosemary Clooney. Video quality varies back and forth, but Iggy and David perform at the beginning and end of the segment so it’s worth hanging in there. Band members include Tony Sales and Hunt Sales – sons of Soupy Sales. David chainsmokes through the whole interview.

YOU CAN HAVE DAVID BOWIE’S STEREO- AMONG OTHER THINGS!

Another reason to love David Bowie: his artistic taste in collectibles! His collection of amazing Memphis furniture and objects is up for sale at Sotheby’s, along with his killer art collection. Apparently his wife Iman is not as fond of these whimsical and beautiful pieces as he was. Our personal favorite is this astonishing Italian radio/ stereo designed in the ‘60s.

IT HAPPENED IN THE 80’S: SUSAN SARANDON AND DAVID BOWIE!

We love being surprised to hear about unlikely celebrities who dated back in the day. Who knew Susan Sarandon had a fling with David Bowie? Susan and David, both now 67, hooked up while they were filming the 1983 vampire movie “The Hunger.” They were both single at the time. This gossip tidbit came to light when Susan’s friend Melissa McCarthy blurted it out while (ironically) giving Susan an AARP Lifetime Achievement Award. According to the National Enquirer, Susan’s kids in the audience were astonished! Not surprisingly, their mother had never mentioned it! (Above, Susan and David out somewhere in 1983)

LAS VEGAS WANTS DAVID BOWIE

AEG is trying to talk David Bowie into returning to the stage on a long term basis in Las Vegas. Several venues are very interested, according to Norm Clarke. Bowie, 66, has been “retired” since 2004 so it’s high time for another comeback. After all, he has his new album “The Next Day” to promote, and a grueling world tour doesn’t sound appealing. With a Las Vegas residential gig, he could become the Frank Sinatra of the Baby Boom generation.

DAVID BOWIE IN HIS “GOLDEN YEARS”

This is not an album cover – it’s a mug shot! One of the best ever. In 1976 David Bowie, 28, was on his Thin White Duke tour in America and enjoying the success of his hit “Golden Years.” When he arrived in Rochester, New York, he and Iggy Pop were arrested for possession of half a pound of marijuana. David pleaded “not guilty” and was described as very polite. Don’t know the outcome, but the show in Rochester DID go on…

DAVID BOWIE HAILS HIS OWN CABS

#davidbowie #janetcharlton

All we know is, we can never get enough of David Bowie. He seems so reclusive and it’s always a treat to see him. He’s sold around 140 million records, but hasn’t performed live since 2006. Bowie, 65, just seems to live quietly with his wife Iman and their 12 year old daughter Alexandria – only occasionally venturing out for a museum or charity event. Today he was “Under Pressure” to grab a cab at rush hour in New York, and he DID manage to do so.
