Daniel Day-Lewis

WILL DANIEL DAY-LEWIS COME OUT OF RETIREMENT?

A clever paparazzi caught
Daniel Day-Lewis walking out of Steven Spielberg’s NY office with Steven and a group of movie bigwigs including Irish playwright/filmmaker Jim (My Left Foot) Sheridan.Everyone looked happy. Coincidentally or NOT, Sheridan has been working on a film called The True Story of Chief Standing Bear. The story is set in Nebraska in 1879 and it’s about the first Native American granted civil rights in the US. One can’t HELP but wonder if Daniel is considering coming OUT of his 2017 retirement for this film. In The Last of the Mohicans (1993), Lewis played a half-white half-native American character successfully. Would he DARE to play a much admired Native American Chief, considering modern racial sensitivities? We shall see…

DANIEL DAY- LEWIS IS SITTING ON A PARK BENCH WITH A BROKEN ARM

He just announced that he’s retired from acting last June, and already Daniel Day-Lewis, 60, is wiling away the afternoon on a park bench in lower Manhattan. His “final” movie, coming out at Christmas, has already been described as brilliant. It’s called Phantom Thread and it’s the life story of a renowned British fashion couturier, Charles James, who designed clothes for high society and the Royals in the 50’s. The Brits are gleefully speculating that Day-Lewis fell in love with the fashion industry while researching the film and he decided to give up acting to design clothes himself. Anything’s possible. We do know that he broke his arm in a motorcycle accident (not a sewing machine accident) around a week ago.

DANIEL DAY-LEWIS HAS A MINI-ME SON

Daniel Day-Lewis’s 21 year old lanky son with Isabelle Adjani is named Gabriel-Kane Day-Lewis. Can you imagine having TWO hyphens in your name? He grew up in New York and calls himself a singer/songwriter but he’s also a model (6’2”) for Karl Lagerfeld and has appeared in Chanel fashion shows. Above, he’s at a fashion show in Milan with another celebrity kid, actress Morgane Polanski, 23. She’s the daughter of the notorious Roman Polanski and French actress Emmanuelle Seignor.

DANIEL DAY-LEWIS TAKES HIS SWEET TIME

Seems like forever since we’ve seen Daniel Day-Lewis , 58, – his last movie, Lincoln, earned him an Oscar, but that was four years ago. Daniel seems to be the opposite of Robert DeNiro, who makes as many movies as he can. Daniel is known for his long hiatuses between films and he likes to take his time researching scripts. Hence, he doesn’t work all that often. (We couldn’t find any future plans.) He was photographed running errands in New York and he’s quite a striking man.

WILL THE REAL ABRAHAM LINCOLN PLEASE STAND UP

To think Liam Neeson was almost cast in Steven Spielberg’s “Lincoln.” One look at this photograph of Daniel Day-Lewis in character, and you cannot imagine anyone else playing the part. At first glance, most people think this IS Lincoln in a pensive mood. That’s how convincing Day-Lewis is. The story deals with the last four months of Lincoln’s life when he was dealing with abolishing slavery with a constitutional measure. And Daniel wears those vintage clothes so beautifully. “Lincoln” will be released in November

DANIEL DAY-LEWIS EASILY ASSUMES THE ROLE OF SCHOLAR

Attn: Mary J Blige: Daniel Day-Lewis picked up an honorary degree of Doctor of Letters from the University of Bristol this week. A Doctor of Letters is for scholars “with distinguished contributions to knowledge in the humanities.” Daniel, who has won two Oscars (“There Will Be Blood” and “My Left Foot,”) among many other awards, is the pride and joy of Bristol’s Old Vic Theater School which he attended for several years in the late 70’s.
