Boy George

JEAN- PAUL GAULTIER HAS HIS OWN WEST END MUSICAL

We haven’t seen Boy George dressed to kill in awhile, so you KNOW something is happening in London. It’s opening night of Jean Paul Gaultier’s Fashion Freak Show – a theater production on the West End. The show is described as “50 years of pop culture through the eyes of JP Gaultier (who happens to be one of our favorite designers!) Actors, dancers, and circus performers in extravagant costumes fill the stage along with the music, celebrities, and movies, that inspired Gaultier through the years. Certainly Madonna will be prominently featured in that infamous bullet bra! One critic said that this production makes all the other West End shows look “beige.” By the way, George and the Culture Club are currently on tour…

BOY GEORGE: THE ROLE OF A LIFETIME?

Unlike SOME people, Boy George is not complaining about a new biopic called Karma Chameleon being made about his life. He says “I want it to be honest and truthful – and hilarious!” The movie will document George O’Dowd’s rise from small town boy to flamboyant rockstar, and it WILL include his 4 month prison term in 2009 for falsely imprisoning a male escort. First the film was delayed by Covid, and now it’s being held up because they haven’t cast someone to play George. George jokes that Harry Styles was “too scared” to take the role, but Yungblud and Adam Lambert have not been ruled out. George is now 60 years old – can you believe it?

BOY GEORGE WANTS KEANU REEVES TO STAR IN HIS LIFE STORY

Believe it or not, filming is set to start this summer for Boy George’s musical biopic Karma Chameleon, and the leading role has not yet been cast! Boy George has been hoping that Keanu Reeves would be cast to play him, but that’s only wishful thinking. (He’s not giving up on having Keanu make a cameo appearance in the movie, however.) The movie will start with George’s Irish working class upbringing- and trace his evolution to stardom in the 80’s with Culture Club. It will also include that nasty episode where George was sentenced to 15 months in jail for “false imprisonment” – he handcuffed a Norwegian male escort to the wall of his London flat after meeting him on the dating site Gaydar. George turns 60 this year (!) and he’s already booked for a series of concerts this summer.

LOOK FAMILIAR? GUESS WHO THIS ROCKSTAR IS!

This stylish guy rocking purple and fuchsia, not to mention red velvet heels and a glitter mask, dined at Catch LA in West Hollywood last night. Observers of a certain generation are bound to guess that this is Boy George. But they are WRONG. This is an equally flamboyant, but much younger performer – it happens to be Adam Lambert, the current lead singer for Queen.

WHATEVER HAPPENED TO MARILYN?

Boy George’s feminine best friend Marilyn stirred up quite a furor a few years back when he declared that Gavin Rossdale was “the love of my life” – they had a drug fueled five year fling back in the 80’s. Marilyn says he was a miserable heroin addict for 20 years but is now reformed. He and George remained friends through thick and thin, and now Boy George has produced a comeback single for his old pal. Interestingly, Marilyn has ditched the long hair and makeup and looks like a man now. He’s billed on the record as “Mister Marilyn.”

BOY GEORGE TO KELLY OSBOURNE: DO YOU REALLY WANT TO LOOK LIKE ME?

Looks like Kelly Osbourne is still into looking like a female version of 80’s icon Boy George – except HE wears more make-up. George is probably flattered – he’s currently on a world tour with Culture Club so he’s earning money again. Kelly may have left Fashion Police, but she’s still involved in fashion, having just taken part in New York’s Fashion Week where she tweeted comments about her favorite shows. She took her little dog everywhere as usual. Boyfriends come and go, but dog love is forever.

GAVIN ROSSDALE’S EX-BOYFRIEND MARILYN STILL HAS A CRUSH

We know ONE person who is THRILLED that Gavin Rossdale is single again. The London music scene in the 80’s was loaded with drugs and cross-dressing – Boy George and his best friend Marilyn were everywhere. In fact, Marilyn used to call us at Star magazine with gossip tips in those days. In 1995 Boy George revealed in his biography that Marilyn had a romance with Gavin Rossdale! Marilyn was totally smitten and claimed it lasted for 5 years but Gavin played it down and called it a fling. Marilyn has since given up drugs and resumed his real name of Peter Robinson and turned up at the LGBT Awards in London. He’s just waiting for the phone to ring!

BOY GEORGE NEEDS A BETTER DISGUISE

Boy George knows how to travel undercover and keep his identity a secret – EXCEPT for one mistake. He cleverly left off the make-up and dressed down for his arrival at JFK. The beard and grey hair make him look quite ordinary. But he was schlepping his own luggage and it happened to be Louis Vuitton. That caught a paparazzi’s eye and he looked closely and saw the tattoos – and that’s how George blew his cover.

BOY GEORGE DOESN’T WANT TO HURT YOU

Boy George is getting invitations to nice places again! Above, he was a guest at the Vivienne Westwood show during Fashion Week in Paris. He aptly describes himself as “the pink sheep of his working class Irish family.” He and his band Culture Club split 14 years ago, and after some drug meltdowns and jail time, George and the band are set to tour again. He’s ready – George has been sober since 2008.

BOY GEORGE: NOT THE MAN HE USED TO BE

This photo of Boy George is absolutely the best. He’s on the cover of Metrosource and at 53, he looks better than he did in his 80’s heyday. This is a man who has already written TWO autobiographies covering the years up to 2006. His new album “This is What I Do” isn’t exactly a runaway hit, but George is someone you have to SEE as well as listen to. His concerts do not disappoint and he’s always fun to look at.
