“Black Swan”

THE CHINESE VERSION OF SWAN LAKE IS MORE ASTONISHING THAN BLACK SWAN

Natalie Portman thinks she went through hell rehearsing for the dance scenes in “Black Swan,” but her hard work was nothing compared to what these dancers with the Great Chinese State Circus endured. The Chinese version of Swan Lake is acrobatic, physically amazing, and one step beyond…

WE TOLD YA SO: MACAULAY CULKIN AND MILA KUNIS ARE HISTORY

Back in November when Black Swan was starting to make waves, we expressed our concern over the fact that Mila Kunis had not been seen with Macaulay Culkin for a long time. When they lived in Los Angeles they were inseparable and frequently spotted in our local supermarket. (Once they were seen together devouring a roasted chicken in the parking lot.) After Mila went to New York to film Black Swan, Mac followed but things were never the same. Mila has become a big movie star and Mac’s career is still stalled. They no longer have much in common. Their sweet romance didn’t work any more. Sad, but that’s how life is.

“BLACK SWAN” AND “SHOWGIRLS” HAVE MORE THAN A LITTLE IN COMMON

Showgirls | Black Swan Trailer MASH UP from Jeffrey McHale on Vimeo.

Video via Hollywood Reporter

For those of you who forked over your hard earned money to see “Black Swan” this weekend – and certainly, it WAS a better choice than “The Tourist” – here is a revealing and amusing mashup of the Black Swan trailer and that old favorite “Showgirls.” (It combines the audio of the Swan trailer and visuals from Showgirls.) One might assume “Black Swan” director Darren Arononfsky was a fan of Elizabeth Berkley’s 1995 potbboiler.

IS “BLACK SWAN” DIRECTOR DARREN ARONOFSKY A WOMAN HATER?

It’s amazing, but Darren Aronofsky has managed to create a ballet movie AIMED AT MEN! “Black Swan” has none of the characteristics a woman would look forward to in a ballet movie – exquisite music and dance sequences, hard working young women with a spirit of camaraderie, the excitement of living in New York as a ballerina, gay male dancers as best friends, a peek inside the world of ballet. What Aronofsky DOES provide is a nightmarish group of backstabbing neurotic (but beautiful and vulnerable) dancers leading dark and dreary lives. With some lesbian sex thrown in “for the boys.” Natalie Portman’s character is on the edge of madness and her self-mutilation sequences are nauseating. Barbara Hershey is photographed in such gruesome unflattering close-ups that she should sue the director. The males in the movie are older and lascivious and in charge. It’s not a pretty picture and it makes one wonder if Aronofsky secretly hates women.

“BLACK SWAN” STAR MILA KUNIS: IS MACAULAY CULKIN LURKING IN THE SHADOWS?

Okay, we know that Mila Kunis prefers to keep her private life VERY private, but we’re concerned about the absence of her boyfriend of eight years, Macaulay Culkin, at her movie premiers. Mila’s “Black Swan” costar Natalie Portman kept her boyfriend, choreographer Benjamin Millepied, off the red carpet and avoided photos together, but connected with him afterward at the party. So far the movie has had several premiers and no one has spotted Mac. The fact that Mila’s career is blossoming and Macaulay’s is not might be a problem, but we hope not. They seem like a sweet well matched couple.
