SAM WORTHINGTON : TAKING A BREAK FROM LOS ANGELES

We didn’t realize that Avatar star Sam Worthington (who looks better when he shaves) had such a pretty wife. She’s Lara Bingle, a model and TV presenter, (she and Sam are both Australian) – they got married in 2014 and have three sons. They sold their LA house and it appears they are moving back home to Australia, where Covid is less threatening now. Sam has theater work there and he is set to finish his Avatar sequels soon in New Zealand. The family of five spent a day in a park in Sydney.

Sam Worthington’s ordinariness is both a curse and a blessing. He and Leonardo DiCaprio starred in the two most popular movies of all time- Titanic and Avatar– but their lives are totally different. Leo continues to be a paparazzi target and his private life is all over the gossip columns. Maybe it’s partly because Leo has a very memorable face. Australian Sam Worthington is a good looking guy but has no distinctive characteristics. He enjoys privacy that Leo would envy, but he misses out on some perks. Leo is ushered to the best table at clubs and restaurants while Sam has to dig for his ID. He didn’t have it at the Atlanta bar Vortex and when they wouldn’t let him in he became belligerent and ended up arrested for disorderly conduct. He was in town filming “Ten” with Arnold Schwarzenegger but no one recognized him. Judging by the police photo above, we wouldn’t have let him in either.

Just because Avatar star Zoe Saldana, 33, is dressed up and out with an unidentified man doesn’t necessarily mean she found another guy so soon. Zoe and her boyfriend of eleven years, actor Keith Britton, very recently called off their engagement and relationship. Judging by their body language, the guy above is most likely her publicist or agent. He’s polite and concerned about her well-being, but there’s no affection there. Zoe and her companion left an event on Robertson and crossed the street for dinner at The Ivy.

Sam Worthington has one thing in common with Leonardo DiCaprio: they starred in the two highest grossing movies of all time. Avatar has topped The Titanic but Sam’s popularity never reached the extreme heights that Leo’s did. After Titanic, Leo could never leave the house without paparazzi and swooning fans following him everywhere. He complained bitterly about his loss of privacy. But after Sam’s amazing performance, he just melted into the crowd. He’s nice looking but can look incredibly ordinary, as is illustrated in the right photo, above. An astute photographer recognized Sam leaving Boa steakhouse in Hollywood. WE never would have figured out who he was.

JAMES CAMERON BRIGHTENS THE ENVIRONMENT FOR HIS AVATAR STARS


It was a nice gesture for James Cameron to give the eleven principal cast members in “Avatar” a holiday bonus gift of a BLUE Toyota Prius. According to Deadline Hollywood, he spent around $30,000 on each environmentally friendly vehicle. Certainly it was an appropriate gift, but wouldn’t it have been great if he’d given cars to some of the crew members and staffers who REALLY would have appreciated them? Wealthy actors will just hand over the keys to their housekeepers to drive. At least Oprah gives out gifts to people who can really use them.

“Avatar” and “Clash of the Titans” have made Sam Worthington king of the boxoffice, but he still looks like a very ordinary guy off-camera. (Did you know he was living out of his car when he signed up for “Avatar?”) He left Trousdale last night looking like he did some hard partying – oddly enough, he left alone. (Wonder who’s wearing those sexy flesh colored shoes behind him)

Sam Worthington was sexy and gorgeous onscreen in “Avatar,” but in real life he seems to disappear into the woodwork. In person, and even in photos, the Australian actor looks more like a very average person than a movie star. We’re not certain we’d recognize him if he was walking down the street. But Sam DOES have his admirers- Avatar fans mobbed him at LAX. We wonder if he’ll ever have the paparazzi frenzy that Leonardo DiCaprio had after “Titanic.”

Her excellent turn as the savvy helicopter pilot in Avatar will type cast her in a good way as a resilient, tomboyish take-charge kind of female with a good heart. She can make a good living and have a long career playing those roles, and she won’t have to constantly worry about looking perfect.
