Sarah Jessica Parker and her son James is significant because she is taking him to the New York Public Library. SJP pulled her kid away from his computer and video games and she is familiarizing him a place she hopes will become a hang-out for him in the future. It’s an old fashioned notion, but one we treasure because the library was OUR second home when growing up and we never regretted a minute spent there.

  1. I loved books as a child and am trying to instill that love into my kids but it’s tough. Sadly, books can’t compete with video games and Twitter and Lord knows what else. But we do insist our kids read one book a week and they have to write a brief synopsis of it – one that doesn’t sound like cliff notes. LOL. They hate doing the report but they are starting to enjoy the quiet time reading brings. So we’ll see.

  2. No better place to hang out! I have loved books since I was old enough to pick them up, and I think SJP is very smart to start James Wilkie early.

  3. And yet…..put a 800 page Harry Potter book in front of a kid, and they will read it cover to cover. Not only that, as we know, they will go to the book store and stand in line to be first to get them. Go figure.

  4. Parker is a class act, and an example – in many great ways – of positive societal moves of the sixties and seventies. She has always talked about how she benefited from after school programs and government funded art programs when she was a child, and about how she might not be where she is now if they had not been there. She, like many of her generation, has old-fashioned cultural values. It is great to see her try to pass these onto her children. It is strange that people who are relatively young, like Parker, now seem to be from a whole other world.

  5. Yeah, she’s a sweetie, I met her on the street once before “Sex& The City” and she was very friendly and relaxed. She was doing “Once Upon a Mattress” then, the kid is adorable. But why’d they need two more that aren’t their biological kids. Only children can be very creative and unique people.

  6. Barkley, the twins ARE their biological children, they were just CARRIED by a surrogate. There’s a big difference there. There must have been a problem with SJP in getting pregnant so they had a surrogate carry the babies. It’s done fairly commonly in the entertainment world nowadays.

  7. Great for promoting reading to children, but….ooh yuck – how horrible reading books that hundreds and thousands of other people have read with who knows what on their hands!!! think about it!!??

“Nowadays” you can access and read books over the Internet

  8. SJP: Holding your purse like tht is an invitation to a purse snatcher. This is a tough and dangerous world. you dumb-a**.

  9. It must suck living in a place where you have to watch how you carry your bag. I have heard it is expected to be mugged in NY.

    That is so f**ked up.

  10. Cal, GOING to the library and reading is half the fun. As far as your obvious germaphobia, there is such a thing as hand sanitizer. You’re such a downer.

  11. Cal,

I have lived in Noo Yawk City for more than 40 years and have nevah been mugged. Get real…
or come here, before you make these statements!
