ROBERT DE NIRO LEAVES THE FOCKERS TO RETURN TO THE MOBSTERS
After far too many “Meet The Parents” and “Focker” movies, it looks like Robert De Niro is set to redeem himself in a mob film directed by his buddy Martin Scorsese. Scorsese, who has been favoring Leonardo DiCaprio as his leading man, is directing a script based on the book “I Heard You Paint Houses.” (“Paint houses” is mob slang for contract killings.) The movie is called “The Irishman” and it’s about Frank Sheeran, a labor union official who became a mobster responsible for 25 killings – including Jimmy Hoffa. The real Sheeran confessed this to the book’s author before he died. How Bobby will prepare for this role is not known but you may recall he drove a cab before he filmed “Taxi Driver.”

Jerry Stiller is hilarious — his rolling from playing Frank Costanza in Seinfeld to Arthur in King of Queens has guaranteed him a huge spot in pop culture history. Ann Meara seems to have worked less, but is no less iconic — I still remember her playing Rhoda’s cynical air-hostess friend in the late seventies.

It can only be good news, right? Can’t STAND Ben Stiller. His goofy face and monkey ears ruins every movie he’s in. I finally watched Tropic Thunder the other night because it was rated highly and had Robert Downey Jr. in it (with high praise). Stiller was beyond distractingly goofy and moronic and ruined the whole thing for me. To me, he just can’t play anything but his goofy self. ICK!
De Niro has always been an interesting actor and at least hasn’t turned into an old lady like Al Pacino (have you SEEN his HAIR lately?). Pacino is short, dumpy, balding, and apparently has never met a black outfit he didn’t want to wear. BORING!
