Los Angeles is soooo lucky to have “Arias with a Twist” featured at the Redcat theater in Gehry’s glorious Disney Hall until mid-December. We’ve known Joey since the early 70’s when he was an eager high school kid in a band, working in our clothing store, The Garment District, on Sunset Strip. He was always bursting with creativity and when he moved to New York he joined up with legendary operatic performance artist Klaus Nomi and became a New Wave megastar in New York nightlife. Joey channels not only Billie Holiday, but Joan Crawford and Marlene Dietrich. Joey’s incredibly vixenish costumes are designed by his pal Thierry Mugler and executed by Project Runway’s Chris March. The cabaret show is affordable and deliciously entertaining. Lady Gaga’s AMA performance reminded us a LOT of Joey – we think she stole his act!

you still think she is an original singer, folks?
GaGa, original? Hah! But she really stole her act from Dale Bozzio of Missing Persons.
Yeah, but Dale Bozzio has talent.
Pleez, stop talking about Ga-gag!
The rest of the article was nice.
Joey is the flamingest of fags!
Joey’s show is terrific, and everything he does is professionally interesting and creative. I also remember him from the NYC days with Klaus. But give Lady Gaga her due: She is a remarkable musician with inventive ideas and a gorgeous sense of theatre.
Joey is openly gay. What Gaga is remains a mystery.
I couldn’t care less about Gag me! I’ve see ner older vids where she just plays her music and isn’t trying to be a freak sideshow contestant and her hair was her natural brown, her face just natural. I’d much prefer that than this rediculous crap she shoves down our throats now. Like when she came on Leno with that Chair sticking out of the back of her shoulders! That was one of the STUPIDEST things I’ve EVER seen! And all her songs just sound the same to me.
The devil knows his own.
Saw him in “The Nomi Song” on dvd recently. He used to channel Billie Holiday at Bardot in the West Village, he’s okay and unique but not many people from that East Village scene translate to the big time. Ann Magnuson sorta did, Madonna definitely did, John Sex didn’t, Wendy Wild didn’t. But I miss those days, it’s not the same down there. The Pyramid is totally commercialized now and Dick’s Bar & The Tunnel & The World have all closed.
I think it’s pretty obvious that she’s stolen from many, many people.. it’s all recycled garbage
I think that things in life are often done over and over and over again and this idea often die if some one does not use it and no matter what you think people want to see lady Ga ga and love that she is bringing back style and class to the world.
In life we use the same thing over and over again and if it grabs the worlds attention…Then that is great and stole acts are there for each person to enjoy and place in there lives and…I really like Lady GA GA AND SHE IS WORTH LISTENING TO AND WORTH HEARING WHAT SHE HAS TO SAY AND MANY PEOPLE ALL OVER THE WORLD REALLY ENJOY HER AND RUSH TO BUY TICKETS AND SEE HER AND THAT MEANS SHE IS DOING SOMETHING RIGHT.
Joey Arias got her ideas from some one and Lady Ga ga has a right to use her emotions and her god gifts to share with the world and…We are loving it and there is no one on this earth like her and she is amazing and smart and outstanding.
Joey is good at what she does and she looks incredible and lovely and in great shape and to each there own and thy self be true.
