ELIZABETH OLSEN CHOSE GIVENCHY OVER THE ROW FOR OSCARS

Elizabeth Olsen opted to wear a glittery Givenchy gown to the Academy Awards even though her twin sisters, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen offered to give her something from their label, The Row. Elizabeth tries to flaunt items from her sisters’ collection as often as she can, but she wanted something sparkly for the Oscars and The Row’s clothes are minimalist. Of course, the twins were disappointed that Elizabeth didn’t wear one of their designs because Elizabeth was a presenter, and the publicity would have been priceless. To make it up to them, Elizabeth promised to wear something from The Row if she’s ever nominated for a big award, like an Oscar, Emmy or Golden Globe.

ASHLEY OLSEN HAS PLENTY OF PROTECTION

Tiny Ashley Olsen, 34, is surrounded by security as she leaves her New York fashion office. She and her boyfriend of four years, Louis Eisner, 31, are both Corona cautious and wear scarves or masks at all times. Eisner is the son of jewelry designer Lisa Eisner and he and Ashley have been spending weekends in the Hamptons. Ashley’s twin sister Mary-Kate is still negotiating her problematic divorce from French businessman Olivier Sarkozy, 51. At least the twins can feel somewhat secure about their fashion business The Row. The two are worth about 300 million dollars now and that should tide them over.

Here’s Mary-Kate Olsen as you don’t often see her – wearing a bright color! The fashionable twin and her sister Ashley are kept busy working on their highly successful clothing lines – the most expensive of which is “The Row.” The twins were delighted last week when Michelle Obama wore of pleated skirt of theirs on “The View.” Almost all of the Olsen’s designs are made in the USA.

MARY-KATE AND ASHLEY OLSEN ARE HARDCORE NEW YORKERS NOW

A friend of ours who doesn’t mind paying a hundred dollars for lunch, took a cigarette break outside the Polo Lounge at the Beverly Hills Hotel. When he got outside he realized he forgot his pack and noticed two elegant girls dressed in black puffing next to him. They were oblivious to the California sunshine – dressed in New York layers of very expensive dark clothing and long skirts and dark glasses. He asked one ”Could I bum a cigarette?” “No problem.” She replied. At that moment he realized they were Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen, and a family from Texas spotted them and started begging for photos. The Olsens politely declined, but the noisy Texans persisted until the twins put out their cigarettes and went inside. Perhaps they’re in town planning to dress some of their Hollywood friends in clothing from their expensive line “The Row,” for Oscar night. Fashion, rather than acting, seems to be what they’re into these days.

YOU KNOW THE OLSEN'S DESIGNS ARE SPECIAL IF MAXFIELD CARRIES THEM

Last weekend we had our first hands-on experience with Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s upscale clothing line called “The Row.” (It’s named after the sartorially famous Savile Rowe in London.) The Olsens are best known for their perky Wal-Mart designs but this collection is obviously a labor of love. It’s very expensive and only sold in stores like Barneys New York, Browns in London, and Maxfield. (These are the places the Olsens actually shop at.) Maxfield had their final markdown sale last week and we saw some of the Olsen’s lush merchandise, including black leather leggings. We found a pair of unusual long red sleeves reduced to $29 by The Row and we snapped them up.
