SPANDAU BALLET – SOME AGED BETTER THAN OTHERS

We love those flamboyant 80’s new wave bands, and particularly Spandau Ballet. It’s delicious to think that guys used to dress up in all that frippery. Spandau Ballet just posted the top photo as a New Year’s greeting to their current fans. The bottom photo is the band in all its new romantic glory. We’ve had a little crush on Martin Kemp ever since we saw him in “The Krays,” The group got back together in 2009 and have been performing ever since. Actually the guys have aged rather well – some better than others.

SPANDAU BALLET: NOT AS FASHION OBSESSED AS THEY USED TO BE

30 years ago, Spandau Ballet debuted at the Festival Della Canzone in San Remo, Italy, and they’re back for more. We always remember the group as a bunch of designer-clad pretty boys. After years of squabbling, their sons talked them into getting back together. Martin Kemp, Tony Hadley, Gary Kemp, Steve Norman and John Keeble patched up their differences and are performing together again. Below, watch their “True” video.

SPANDAU BALLET DIDN’T KNOW HOW TO HANDLE THE END OF THE EIGHTIES

It’s actually happening. Spandau Ballet band members settled their differences – eighteen years after their last performance together, and they’re about to start their reunion tour to promote their new album. The bustup was painful, Gary Kemp admits “We didn’t know how to handle the end of the 80’s.” (Their New Romanticism became obsolete.) There were lawsuits, and for years the guys didn’t speak. They admit they were impressed by Duran Duran’s successful reunion tour. The band arranged a meeting and after a few drinks, hashed out their differences. The tour starts in Dublin in two weeks – with far fewer frills and accessories

SPANDAU BALLET WITHOUT THE FRILLS

Spandau Ballet have buried the hatchet and reformed the 80’s “New Romantic” group. The flamboyant hair and eyeliner are gone, but the five original members, Tony Hadley, Gary and Martin Kemp (delectable in “The Krays,”) Steve Norman, and John Keeble, are alive and willing to tour the world. (And they still look good!) Over the years there were bitter lawsuit over royalties, but when the guys saw how well other 80’s band revivals like Duran Duran were doing, and they want a piece of the pie. They’re rehearsing for concerts starting in October.
