RAQUEL WELCH: THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES

Back in the 90’s, we had a friend who lived right next door to Raquel Welch’s former personal assistant, an elderly woman named Phyllis. The older woman – a no-nonsense schoolteacher type – long retired, was in her late eighties. Our friend talked about how Raquel would often visit the West Hollywood condominium building to check up on her former employee. The friend encountered her in the lobby several times and was quite impressed by Raquel, saying she was always friendly and pleasant- and nicely dressed, with perfectly coiffed hair (wig?) She was in the habit of bringing over snacks or flowers to her former assistant. How many ex-bosses do THAT?

WHEN RAQUEL WELCH MET RYAN GOSLING

Nice to know that Raquel Welch is still shopping in Beverly Hills, looking superb. Raquel, 76, has a sense of humor about herself and she told a funny story about Ryan Gosling recently. She had read that Ryan described Raquel as his “first crush” in the 80’s and she happened to really like his movie “The Notebook,” so when she saw him at an event, she approached him to say hello. He had no idea who she was! Raquel modestly introduced herself and Ryan was flabbergasted and blushed. Raquel wasn’t dismayed, she just laughed “I don’t look like I did in the 80’s!” They had a nice chat about The Notebook which is one of her all-time favorite movies. Raquel is currently appearing in the movie “How to be a Latin Lover.”

SUZANNE SOMERS HAS THE LAST LAUGH

The Carousel of Hope Ball in Beverly Hills brings out Hollywood celebrities from past generations – many of whom we haven’t seen for awhile. The event is appealing because the red carpet photo area features especially complex and flattering lighting so nobody looks bad! George Hamilton and his ex-wife Alana Stewart (Farrah Fawcett’s best friend) are still pals although they’re no longer romantically involved. Their E! reality series “Stewarts & Hamiltons” was canceled last year after 8 episodes. It’s nice to see Raquel Welch looking flirtatious – her wig business is thriving and she has a movie coming out called “How to be a Latin Lover.” Businesswoman Suzanne Somers is still selling ThighMasters, plus an endless array of books and products on TV. She’s probably the wealthiest of all.

RAQUEL WELCH IS DOING SOMETHING RIGHT

Hard to believe, but Raquel Welch filmed “One Million Years BC” forty eight years ago and she still looks like a Glamazon! Her wig business is going strong and she personally models (and looks good in) every one of the hairpieces for sale. (Above she’s dining at Craig’s restaurant.) We wonder whatever happened to her daughter Tahnee Welch who only made a few movies.

RAQUEL WELCH STILL HAS IT

Let’s hear it for Raquel Welch! She showed up looking luminous at Saturday night’s Governor’s Awards, and judging by Raquel, 73 is the new 50. Although we imagine she put in a lot of hours of hard work to look this perfect. Her spectacular appearance reminded us that she has two equally attractive children – Tahnee and Damon, whom we haven’t seen in years. Tahnee had a budding acting career in the 90’s but we haven’t seen her since the turn of the century. Raquel is still thriving thanks to her wig collection with HAIR U WEAR.

RAQUEL WELCH DOESN’T NEED ANY FAKERY TO LOOK GOOD

Raquel Welch is actively promoting her new book “Beyond the Cleavage: The Real Story Behind the Sex Symbol” which includes not only her life story but her opinions on many subjects. We applaud her for writing the book herself, with no ghost writer, but were a bit perplexed by some of her advice to women on growing older. Ravishing Raquel is approaching 70, and she urges women to embrace ageing and not be afraid. But is HAS been pointed out that her photo on the book cover has been liberally air-brushed. Her amazing natural good looks would have been way more effective than the photoshopped version of herself.

Forget About It

In 2004, Burt Reynolds’ just-completed movie “Forget About It” was a low budget quickie, but he and his costar Raquel Welch still managed to throw their weight around. Burt was described by coworkers as more obnoxious and demanding than ever. He griped about everything, constantly changed lines, lighting, and camera angles to suit himself and was generally “insufferable.” And he wasn’t the only egotist. Raquel was apparently not happy with the limited frills and when the movie wrapped she walked off with her $14000 wardrobe. The costume department was in hot water and begged her to return the clothes, while furious producers considered a lawsuit.
