HAS MARC JACOBS STARTED A SKIRT TREND FOR MEN?

The CFDA Awards (Council of Fashion Designers of America) is called the Oscars of the fashion world, and participants take it very seriously. So SNL’s Seth Meyers, who hosted, had his work cut out for him. Besides his hilarious comments about Galliano etc, he parodied designer Marc Jacobs outfit at the Met Ball. Seth wore the same sheer Comme des Garcons dress with boxer shorts. On a serious note. we hear that some of Marc Jacobs friends and business associates are very concerned about his extravagant behavior lately. Scandals involving pornstar boyfriends and illegal substances make people wonder about the successful designer’s state of mind.

Good grief! Step aside, Beyonce and Jessica Alba! We almost overlooked the most noteworthy outfit of ALL at the Met Gala in New York. Mark Jacobs has expanded his men-in-skirts obsession and now he’s upped the ante with sheer black lace! His well-pressed boxer shorts are clearly visible underneath. The Vintage Fashion Expo at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium is the place to be this weekend. The event always attracts well known designers like Marc Jacobs and Betsey Johnson seeking inspiration, plus plenty of celebrities who love vintage clothing through the decades. Marilyn Manson met his future – now exwife – Dita Von Teese at this show. It’s a great big beautiful room loaded with nostalgia and amazing wearable stuff you’ll never see at a mall. (Hint: Halloween costumes!) You never know who might be ogling vintage watches next to you – could be an Olsen twin or Jason Schwartzman.

This picture of designer Marc Jacobs is too good to pass up – for one thing Marc is looking giddily happy with his new Brazilian “husband” Lorenzo Martone. They had a “wedding” ceremony in France, where it is called a “civil solidarity pact.” The vows aren’t legally binding, so Marc doesn’t have to bother with an inconvenient prenup. Marc has fallen in love with kilts for men and wears them all the time, but he’s not including them in his collections. It looks like his kilt was made by Utilikilt.
