Malibu

WE TOLD YA SO!

You read it HERE first! Way back on March 14 we revealed that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had just started house hunting in Malibu. Now – nearly 6 months later – TMZ has confirmed our scoop! As we told you back then, the couple want to be closer to the lights, camera and action of Hollywood. They LOVE Montecito living, but depending on traffic, it can be well over a 2 hour drive from LA. The social couple seem to be spending more time in LA, including attending the Beyoncé concert, sporting events, charity functions, and parties, so moving to Malibu has become enticing for them.

MEGHAN AND HARRY: MONTECITO TO MALIBU?

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are financially comfortable now,  thanks to his autobiography and their Netflix development deal.  They are thinking about moving a few miles south, from Montecito to Malibu! Harry and Meg love the laid back yet sophisticated lifestyle of Montecito, but they’ve quickly grown bored of the wealthy but limited neighborhood. “There are only so many restaurants in town, and the shopping doesn’t compare to Los Angeles,” a Montecito resident told me. Since the couple love the beach and Meg wants to be closer to Hollywood, they’re laser focused on The Colony, a gated beachfront community in Malibu less than an hour from their current home. The Colony is as close to having a private beach as anywhere in California, plus it’s loaded with celebrities – which means enhanced SECURITY. It checks all of their boxes, so Harry and Meg have discreetly started their real estate search.

KIM KARDASHIAN WANTS TO COOL OFF

Not sure if it was that 100 degree plus heat wave earlier this month in Hidden Hills that drove Kim Kardashian to purchase a beach house, but she DID. In a big way, according to Dirt. Kim paid 70.4 million for a 7500 sq ft, 4 bedroom, 5.5 bath estate in Malibu. The lushly landscaped 3 acre property is the biggest Malibu sale this year. Her kids are going to be thrilled – besides an ocean view, the place has stairs leading down to it’s own secluded beach. Kanye might not be so happy – the house is almost 15 miles from his Brutalist Malibu home, so they won’t be neighbors…

ARE WE JUMPING TO CONCLUSIONS ABOUT CHRIS MARTIN AND DAKOTA JOHNSON?

Real estate can be deceiving in more ways than one. Recent headlines about Chris Martin, 43, and Dakota Johnson, 31, buying a Malibu house together are jumping the gun. It seems Chris and Dakota, who have been dating for three years, just moved into a posh Malibu home that was recently sold for 12.5 million. The house looks delightful – it’s 5338 sq ft and a short walk to the beach and shops. Observers are ASSUMING that Chris and Dakota bought it together in preparation for marriage. No one has seen any purchase documentation. Chris could have bought the house for himself (he has two kids with his ex, Gwyneth Paltrow) OR the unidentified buyer could have leased it to Chris. But everyone wants to see them engaged. Dakota already has her own mid-century modern house in LA that she loves, and it’s not for sale. Whatever is happening, they are a cute couple, engaged or not. Above, Chris and Dakota were in Aspen with his daughter Apple, who looks a lot like her mom…

THIS IS WHAT A PEACEFUL DEMONSTRATION LOOKS LIKE

Of course, this is Malibu and not a lot of bad things ever happen there, unless it involves weather or falling rocks. But some inhabitants were determined not to be left out of a socially significant protest. A group of earnest young people congregated at a busy intersection and flashed appropriate Black Lives Matter signs with no obscenities, as cars drove by and honked in agreement. No violence. That’s how they do it in Malibu.

TEMPERATURES RISING IN MALIBU: CHRIS MARTIN AND KATE HUDSON

For a quiet, rather soft spoken guy, Coldplay singer Chris Martin, 38, really gets around. Malibu was sizzling today and he and Kate Hudson, 35, might have been sizzling also. It was a family day with two sets of kids and assorted nannies and friends. Chris wore a wetsuit while surfing and Kate tanned in her bikini. They make kind of a cute couple – he has a weakness for blondes and she has a weakness for musicians.

GORDON RAMSAY MIGHT PACK UP HIS KNIVES AND MOVE TO MALIBU

Who would have guessed that a chef could become as successful and wealthy as a movie star? Gordon Ramsay can apparently do no wrong and he’s up there in the financial stratosphere with the likes of Dustin Hoffman and Goldie Hawn. This weekend Gordon looked at a 20 million dollar beachfront home in Malibu that he’s thinking of buying, and those actors would be his neighbors. He’s pictured above with his son Jack, who looks more like his dad every day.

DAVID BECKHAM AND SONS CAN’T WAIT TO HIT THE SURF

The Beckhams are back in Malibu and David took the boys Brooklyn, Romeo, and Cruz to the beach with their boogie boards. (How BIG they’re getting!) Victoria was off somewhere taking a hike with little Harper. The kids are happy to be back so they can see the friends they went to school with while they lived in LA. They wish they could live here full time (can’t say that we blame them) The whole family enjoys all the athletic opportunities they have here.

U2’S THE EDGE IS NOT THE ENVIRONMENTALIST HE CLAIMS TO BE

U2 guitarist the Edge is the most hated man in Santa Monica, California, these days. He plans to build FIVE multilevel mansions on precious undeveloped coastal habitat land in the Santa Monica mountains, overlooking Malibu. Experts and neighbors are concerned about the visual and biological impact because the homes will break up a large block of treasured and nearly pristine wild life. The Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy board objected loudly UNTIL Edge changed their mind. How? He donated a million dollars to the conservancy and now they don’t object. The really nauseating part is that the Edge insists his houses will be “environmentally sensitive.” That is supposed to make everything all right.
