AMY SCHUMER: BACK TO THE FUTURE

Amy Schumer celebrated what she called her “second 40th birthday” – her 41st- at a place we didn’t know existed- the TWA Hotel. The TWA hotel opened in the fabulous old Pan Am airline building at JFK that opened in 1962- designed by Eero Saarinen. We were lucky to have traveled on Pan Am more than once and the building’s futuristic feeling was always thrilling. It was the first time we remember feeling architectural excitement. SO glad the building was saved when it became too small for modern planes. The hotel opened before the pandemic and is lucky to still be around. All furnishings are midcentury modern and a vintage plane has been turned into a cocktail bar. All this and it’s dog-friendly! Amy and friends had a great time exploring and partying all weekend.

AMY SCHUMER : THE BUCK STOPS HERE

Having a two year old (Gene) at home apparently isn’t keeping Amy Schumer busy enough, so she is writing, directing, producing, AND starring in a new Hulu series called Life & Beth. The 10 episode comedy series just started filming in New York with Michael Rapaport and Michael Cera co-starring. It’s about a successful New York businesswoman with a desirable boyfriend and a seemingly perfect life. An unforeseen incident changes everything and she is forced to examine her past and figure out what happened. The story includes flashbacks to her teen years and Rapaport (above) plays father to her teen self.

AMY SCHUMER’S WALK IN THE PARK

This is what a walk in the park looks like today – but only if you live in New York. Amy Schumer and her husband Chris Fischer took baby Gene (who’s a dead ringer for Amy) for a walk on rather empty city streets during social isolation, to Central Park which was just as BUSY as usual! In fact, the park looks more crowded than ever, what with pedestrians and dogs dodging the scooters. Fresh air is good, but hard to come by in Manhattan, so wherever you are, consider yourselves lucky…

AMY SCHUMER IS DEAD SERIOUS ABOUT GUN CONTROL

You know Amy Schumer means business when she’s wearing an army green jumpsuit and marching with the Students for Gun Control in downtown LA. Last month, when Amy surprised everyone by suddenly getting married, she instructed friends and fans, “No wedding gifts – donate to a gun control safety group!” Through the years, Amy has often mocked gun owners in skits and her standup act. Her motto for the student march for gun control today was “Hey, hey NRA, how many kids did you kill today?”

AMY SCHUMER LOOKS LIKE A NERVOUS LIBRARIAN

Amy Schumer was a presenter and didn’t win any trophies at the DGA Awards, but she’s in the running for Worst Dressed. We love comedienne Amy for supporting equal rights for women, but there’s nothing funny about this matronly navy blue frock. Maybe she’s trying to look serious. The sweat stains imply that she’s more frazzled than she appears – and if she borrowed this dress, the lender won’t be happy.

AMY SCHUMER IS A BIGGER DEAL THAN WE REALIZED

When we walked out of her movie “Snatched” we were ready to give up on Amy Schumer. It was all just too dumb and embarrassing for the actors involved. Too vulgar and lacking subtlety. Sometimes Amy IS really funny, but all too often she relies on imitating male comics with gross humor. But since we learned that she is the FIRST AND ONLY female comic to make the Forbes list of Highest Paid Comics (in 2016) we’re willing to make allowances and forgive her shortcomings. She’s smart and making progress for women in the boys’ club world of comedy and we need more women like her!

AMY SCHUMER: GO BACK TO COMEDY SCHOOL!

Biggest movie disappointment (but not the only one) this week is “Snatched.” And we REALLY wanted to like it! The cast was impressive – Amy Schumer, Goldie Hawn, Wanda Sykes and Joan Cusack, but all that talent went to waste, mired in an embarrassingly lame and unfunny script. Shockingly, the Snatched screenplay was written by a woman, but we could have sworn it was Adam Sandler in drag. Lots of infantile vulgarity and slapstick, along with a shortage of wit or funny situations. Amy’s movie Trainwreck showed potential, but it has not been realized. We actually felt sorry for Goldie Hawn, who deserves better for her comeback movie.

AMY SCHUMER AND HER SISTER CRACK EACH OTHER UP

Her younger sister Kim Schumer Caramele has been described as Amy’s secret weapon – she’s the inspiration for much of Amy’s comedy. Kim was a happily married school psychologist living in Chicago when Amy begged her to come to New York and help her write jokes for her show Inside Amy Schumer. It turns out Kim had a real knack for Amy-style comedy and she became a writer and producer. Since then she’s successfully worked on all of Amy’s projects and several of her own. The sisters are inseparable – Amy calls Kim her Road Manager. Occasionally Kim does find time for her husband.

AMY SCHUMER IS THE NEW FRANK SINATRA

Say what you will about “Trainwreck” comic Amy Schumer, she is no cheapskate! Amy and a bunch of friends went to see “Hamilton” in Manhattan and it must have put her in a very good mood. She invited her pals for a drink after the show and their tab was $77. Amy left a $1000 tip! The waitstaff was so excited they posted a photo of the bill on Instagram. This isn’t the first time Amy has tipped big- she recently left another waiter $500 according to his post on Twitter. Frank Sinatra used to carry wads of hundred dollar bills to hand to everyone. In the old days, servers called the tabloids when they got huge tips – and the papers paid them again for the gossip. Now they just post it online.

AMY SCHUMER’S GOT A CUTE BOYFRIEND!

So far so good. It appears that no one has a bad word to say about Ben Hanisch, 29. This must be the real thing because Amy, 34, has been showing up to the NY set of her series Inside Amy Schumer frequently with her new beau. He’s a furniture designer, not an actor or comic, so what’s the deal? There is speculation that he’s making appearances on her show. So much of Amy’s humor involves criticizing men (subversive feminist comedy) that we wonder if THIS guy will change everything!
