Maybe shoppers in St Tropez aren't used to seeing a movie star sitting on a post, waiting while his family runs around the mall. Denzel Washington was oblivious to stares as he killed time like any other dad, waiting for his wife and kids to get their fill of shopping.

It's a rare sight. We love to catch a celebrity loading up on -not designer clothes- but BOOKS! And paying full price! Kate Beckinsale's stock just went up more than a few points in our opinion, because she's patronizing Book Soup on Sunset- one of the few and greatest independent bookstores still in existence.

We find the notion of Amy Winehouse shopping in a kosher Jewish deli simply irresistible. No doubt the other customers were as amused by her presence as we are. Interesting that she seems to have replaced her ballet slippers with Minnetonka moccasins. They're soft and comfortable, but a bit more substantial.

Not many guys seem to enjoy shopping, but Usher is one of the few that really gets into it. He got his shopping rocks off at H Lorenzo on Sunset Plaza the other day. Spies told us he bought every leather jacket he tried on, jeans galore and shoes too. In the picture you can see the owner Lorenzo Hadar (he also owns that new shop HLNR on Robertson) showing Usher a pair of black patent sneakers. Usher bought those too.

This could be the start of a trend. An opportunistic fashion designer followed paparazzi in Beverly Hills and when they finished shooting Bai Ling, he pulled out samples of his work in a parking lot and invited her to select a free jacket! He also had jackets intended for Paris Hilton and Benji Madden. Naturally he assumes they'll be photographed in his designs. Not a bad way to publicize one's merchandise.

Halle Berry and some family members went shopping at Cross Creek Shopping Center in Malibu and if she had ONLY brought her new baby - it would have been a momentous occasion. There would have been FOUR generations of her family all shopping together! Halle's mother is wearing white in the picture and her grandmother is wearing peach.
Bristol Farms food emporium in Beverly Hills attracts a fair share of celebrities and employees there have definite opinions about their famous customers. Among their favorite shoppers are Halle Berry and Gabriel Aubry, and Jessica Alba and Cash Warren - they're always friendly and polite. By far, the LEAST popular celebrity who shops the store is Heidi Klum. She is stunning to look at, but demanding and rude to the staff. Sources say Heidi butts to the front of lines and browbeats the clerks trying to help her. Yes, beautiful Heidi is described as "pushy and unpleasant." But here's a surprise: the clerks' absolute FAVORITE celebrities are Kimora Lee Simmons and her boyfriend Djimon Hounsou!

Arnold Schwarzenegger and a teenage son and daughter popped into Gelson's in Pacific Palisades on Sunday. The Governor pushed the shopping cart and told the kids which fruits to pick out. He wore loose khaki shorts and a golf shirt, plastic shoes, and looked "healthy and tan." When they finished shopping, Arnold sent the kids to the checkout line and he closely examined pastries in the Victor Benes bakery department. (This same pastry shop has proven to be Janet Jackson's downfall) Shoppers WERE surprised that there seemed to be absolutely no secret service bodyguards anywhere in sight.
What could be more fun than spending an afternoon with Sharon Stone and Melanie Griffith on Robertson Blvd? We can't figure out HOW these two became friends - it IS a surprise. Of course they started with lunch at The Ivy and all eyes were upon them.
We're betting they had salads or swordfish and iced tea. After a gossipy lunch they left the Ivy (that guy in the light blue shirt looks familiar, doesn't he?) and strolled down the street.
On the corner, the girls popped into the pricey but spectacular store Les Habitudes, where glamour-puss Melanie tried on a gown over her jeans and Sharon seriously considered a tailored English-looking jacket. They did a little more window shopping before they hopped in their identical Black Bentley convertibles and took off.

Before the Jolie-Pitt family left Los Angeles for the South of France, Brad had a special experience with three year old Zahara. We told you Brad likes to spend time ALONE with each of his children to give them special attention. Brad took Zahara to The Grove to visit the American Girl store. When he walked in the salesgirls silently swooned. Brad took Zahara upstairs and had her pick out her first American Girl doll - a Bitty Baby doll that looked just like her with the same skin and hair color. It comes with a little book. Afterward he took Zahara out for her favorite ice cream and more bonding. Nice daddy, huh?

It's always a surprise to run into Carrot Top - especially at the Fred Segal store in West Hollywood. We have no beef with "California casual" attire, but this look is WAY too locker-room sloppy for us. And while we're on the subject of locker rooms, Carrot Top ought to think about working on his LOWER body for a change. His slim legs are a bit out of proportion.

Kate Beckinsale's husband Len Wiseman doesn't seem to mind shopping with her. And we never noticed how good looking he is- he finally took off that baseball cap. Did you know that back in 2002 Kate and her then boyfriend Michael Sheen (he's the father of her child) were costarring in "Underworld" which was being directed by Len? In the middle of filming she left her boyfriend for Len and they all had to continue working together. She meant business - Kate married Len in 2004.
Guess who's shopping in our very own Whole Foods market in Beverly Hills? (And probably wearing the highest heels those aisles have ever encountered.) Victoria Beckham clicked up and down, around the store, admiring the plants and greenery, and purchasing cereal and milk. She moved rapidly and had a large bodyguard right behind her so heads turned as she zipped by.

John Cho seems a lot better looking here and now, walking into Barneys, than he did in the comedy "Harold and Kumar go to White Castle." We didn't realize he graduated from Berkeley with a degree in English Literature. In spite of that, he has another Harold and Kumar movie coming out - this time the two pot-smoking buddies are accused of being terrorists.

Actually it's Bruce and just one daughter, Tallulah, and her little friend and that's Bruce's young girlfriend Emma Heming walking behind them. Bruce took everyone to Coffee Bean and then he and his happily caffeinated ladies went shopping in Beverly Hills.

Okay, We have to admit we find Britney Spears shopping at discount stores on her new allowance, amusing. First, the Broadway shoe warehouse, now she's moved on to Forever 21 and Claire's discount accessories in the Beverly Center. Brit checked out the two for the price of one pairs of earrings, but settled on sunglasses and a belly button ring. (Don't those cheap ones cause infections?) Ironically, she seems to be carrying an expensive handbag - from happier times no doubt. We predict her next stop will be Santee Alley downtown.

This photo of Britney Spears is significant because she's shopping at the Off Broadway Shoe Warehouse on Sunset, conveniently located right across from In-N-Out Burger. She's scouring the place for a pair of boots. Apparently she's sticking to that $1500 week allowance her father has her on because this is a discount store. Not many celebrities are in the habit of shopping there, so she caused a lot of excitement. Actually, we'd rather see Britney in a better quality pair of boots, but she's obviously more comfortable shopping here than at Barneys.
Never a dull moment in the CVS Pharmacy in Hollywood. A source told us that recently the alarm bells went off at the door as a customer was walking out with a bag full of purchases. Security stopped the shopper, who turned out to be none other than Winona Ryder! She showed the guard her receipt and he proceeded to check her bag. There were a couple of makeup items that were not paid for. Wide-eyed Winona said "I don't know how that happened" and s

Staffers at Light Bulbs Unlimited in LA on Beverly Blvd, just LOVE it when Al Pacino comes in. They say he's a steady customer - recently he bought lots of twinkle lights for his patio. (We were surprised to learn that Al buys his own light bulbs and doesn't send a minion.) The light bulb salesmen are always happy to see Al because frequently when he comes in, he lays a hundred dollar bill on the counter and says " Lunch is on me." He sends someone next door to Hirozen, to pick up excellent Japanese food for all the employees.

Shopkeepers beware: Chris Crocker (remember the sobbing Britney fan who became a web darling?) may be headed your way! And not necessarily to BUY something! Here's what we were told happened at American Apparel on Robertson: Chris came in and grabbed some things to try in the dressing room - among them a pair of shorts, legwarmers and gloves. (No, he didn't select the Lindsay Lohan shiny leggings.) He didn't buy anything and after he left, the clerk discovered the legwarmers and gloves were MISSING and their pricetags were stuffed in the pocket of the shorts Chris had tried on! Later on, a salesclerk saw Chris in the street and confronted him, but he denied everything. We're guessing Chris has sticky fingers like Winona Ryder. Do you suppose he has oxycontin in HIS purse too?

The other shoppers paid no attention to her until paparazzi started bouncing around in and outside the store. (As you can see, the sales people perked up when they saw her) She spent her shopping time there perusing the diamonds fearlessly because she had several burly bodyguards surrounding her at all times. Decorated with a few new sparkly things, she gleefully departed.

Amy Winehouse considers herself an ordinary girl and proves it by shopping at discount stores. Here she is in line to pay at Superdrug and she can't wait to bust open her new mascara and try it out. No Chanel cosmetics for her. It's also amusing to note that as skinny as she is, she doesn't feel the need to wear a coat when everyone else is bundled up. To top off her weekend, Amy had an all-nighter with good looking record producer Mark Ronson. Sure, they spent time in the studio, but they also spent hours at a hotel, and she looks like she's making passes at him. Her jealous imprisoned husband Blake won't be happy about that.

Christina Aguilera is still shopping for furnishings for her new house and we hear that shop owners aren't thrilled to see her coming. Apparently she spends a lot of time picking out expensive pieces and then has her people try to finagle a discount. Not just the customary 10% "decorators" discount, but what she refers to as a "celebrity discount." Maybe she doesn't realize that furniture stores are not like clothing stores. Fashion people give big discounts because they want celebrities to be seen wearing their clothes. But, chances are, no one is going to see what she sits on at home!
Mark Harmon and his wife Pam Dawber turned up at the Textile and Vintage Clothing show in Burbank last weekend and he zeroed in on some expensive collectible Hawaiian shirts. The NCIS star was spotted in the Snappy Gabs booth drooling over an $800 vintage 1950's rayon fish print shirt. Mark was heard telling the vendor " I got hooked on Hawaiian shirts when I wore them in "Summer School" back in 1987. They let me keep all the shirts I wore in the movie and I've been collecting them ever since. " And he DID treat himself to the fish print shirt.
Orlando Bloom had all the salesboys and girls swooning at Fred Segal in Santa Monica a few days ago. When he first ambled into the store in jeans, a t-shirt, and a hat pulled down low, nobody paid much attention. In fact, he had to hunt for an available salesperson. We were told he was "very polite and sweet" and WAY better looking in person. Orlando was friendly to all the people who assembled to ogle him and despite distractions, he bought an $1800 Hermes watch with a black band.

Jessica Simpson had a lazy Saturday afternoon- she beat the heat by shopping at Saks Fifth Avenue in Beverly Hills. Jessica, clad in a colorful athletic shirt, shorts, and a pony tail, and her brunette girlfriend picked up a few items in the cosmetic department and then went upstairs to the café. They relaxed with a glass of wine, giggling, texting, and gossiping. When the server returned to offer refills, Jessica gleefully instructed him to fill the wineglasses ALL the way up. After their considerable refreshments, the girls descended upon the designer department and checked out the fall collections. Jessica was still chomping her gum when she left.
Since she closed the deal to purchase the Osbourne house in Beverly Hills, Christina Aguilera has been on a decorating rampage. She and her extensive entourage were spotted at the Phyllis Morris store on Robertson this week. According to our spy, Christina appeared to fall in love with a huge and really glamorous Hollywood Regency style bed. It's a black lacquer 4 poster with a white satin tufted headboard in the Jean Harlow style, and a $10,000 pricetag. Christina was heard telling the salesperson that she loves old Hollywood glamour but also wants her home to be user-friendly for her husband Jordan.

It's the casually dressed Beckhams, all right, but WHERE are they? It is the Museum Of Contemporary Art? They're not paying much attention to the sculpture towering over them. Are they soaking up some LA culture? Nope, they're doing one of the things they do best - SHOPPING - at the very pricey Maxfield store on Melrose Avenue.
When CSI: Miami's Eva LaRue walked into Saks Fifth Avenue in Beverly Hills, she noticed some paparazzi lurking outside. She figured someone like Paris Hilton was inside shopping. Eva browsed in the shoe department and drifted over to handbags where she found just what she wanted. She bought a purse and was headed back to shoes when a man in a suit introduced himself as store security. He explained "Photographers are following you all over, outside the store windows and using telephoto lenses. It's created a commotion in the shoe department and customers are disturbed and complaining. Can I escort you to your car?" Eva was perplexed, but the man was polite and she cooperated by leaving - WITHOUT getting the shoes she wanted. It sounds odd, but she was sort of KICKED OUT of Saks. Her PR confirmed the story.

Apparently Billy Bob Thornton and his exwife Angelina Jolie ARE still friends. She credits him with giving her the best advice after her mother's death. Billy told her "You'll never get over it, it's never going to be OK. Just kind of let it set with you, and let it be part of who you are now." Above, we caught him browsing on Robertson, but later he went to Urban Outfitters to make his purchases.
We give credit where credit is due. David Spade attended the Kitson fund-raiser and instead of mooching around for a gift bag or freebies like SOME actors do, he spent his OWN money and purchased a fund-raising Omnipeace T shirt. Keep in mind it's not all that often that a celebrity voluntarily forks over some cash.

Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt bear an unsettling resemblance to Barbie and Ken dolls. His single episode guest appearance on Heidi's reality show "The Hills" made such an impression that they are now engaged. He's 23 and she's 20. Spencer LOOKS like an actor, but calls himself a producer, even though the only thing we can find that he produced was "The Princes of Malibu" that Fox cancelled after two episodes.
You see the most interesting people at Barneys in Beverly Hills on the first day of final markdowns. Santino Rice, one of our all time favorite losers on Project Runway, searched the men's designer department for bargains. The lanky reality star was wearing white super-skinny jeans, a white blazer, white leather shoes, and a white hat over a black and white bandanna. He was particularly interested in the Alexander McQueen sale items and rummaged the rack from end to end.

We're fairly sure that Bruce Willis and Demi Moore are relieved to see their strong-willed daughter Rumer,18, keeping company with Heroes actress Hayden Panettiere. Hayden,17, is close to Rumer's age and has a nice-girl reputation. Rumer's underage nightclubbing may be curtailed, since LA police SUDDENLY seem interested in which bars are letting in kids under 21. Before Lindsay Lohan's car accident and DUI, no one paid much attention.
We were shopping at Ralph's market on 3rd and La Brea today and, as is our habit, we parked the cart in a central store location and ran up and down the aisles grabbing necessities. When we reurned to deposit some paper items into the cart - it was gone! Puzzled, we looked around and saw a cute guy pushing the cart and tossing some corn in. We scooted up beside him and said "Excuse me- don't you have the WRONG cart? - these aren't your Lean Cuisines, are they?" He immediately apologized, saying "Sorry- I'm too distracted." That's when we realized it was Luke Perry. His hair is longer and he looks better than he ever did on 90210. (Don't judge by this photo - it is not flattering.) We watched him stocking up on staples - fruits veggies, bread, etc like a real family man. He loaded it all into his black Chrysler SUV and didn't forget to return the cart.

This Sunday afternoon we watched Apolo Ohno go through the checkout line at Whole Foods on 3rd Street across from The Grove. The Dancing with the Stars contestants must be living in the apartments near CBS. Nobody seemed to notice Apolo, who is often considered the best dancer on the show, as long as he kept his distinctive chin whiskers undercover. He was alone and talked on his phone while paying, and all he bought was laundry detergent, pitted prunes, and epsom salts. Will he be soaking his feet tonight?
Barbra Streisand turned up at the opening party for the Los Angeles Antiques Show Wednesday night at Barker Hangar and she spent all of her time shopping, with little time for schmoozing. She was with a red haired female companion (James Brolin got off the hook for this event) and Barbra looked slim and fabulous - at least 20 yars younger than her age. She wore black riding boots with leggings tucked in, with a black wrap and tie sweater, glasses, and she let her hair kind of cover her face. As long as she whispered, few people recognized her. Those that did were reverential and didn't bother her and we loved watching her shop. She enthusiastically photographed some primitive art pieces that cost $1800, tried on some vintage jewelry, and ended up buying a petite late 1800's end table (worth around $10,000) that HER FEMALE FRIEND carried out for her. Imagine that. The place was loaded with admiring gay men who were just aching to carry that table for her.

Nice to see the "cute" Nicole Richie is back instead of the "cadaverous" Nicole Richie. Here she is in her spring shorts, shopping at Dior in Beverly Hills. We wonder if her boyfriend Joel Madden, the Good Charlotte rocker who claims to be against drugging and drinking, has actually been a good influence on her. Looks that way.

Suddenly the new James Bond is all over Hollywood. Daniel Craig, looking sexy in a leather jacket, was spotted parking his Jaguar and walking into Greenblatt's deli for lunch with his girlfriend on Monday . Two days later he was seen at The Grove headed for Abercrombie & Fitch on the same day Victoria Beckham was shopping there. (Brits LOVE this store) Later the new 007 hero inexpertly parked his Escalade (another American icon loved by Brits) in front of the tiny shop Beverly Hills Juice, but his girlfriend couldn't get out of the passenger side because her door was blocked by the parking meter. While passersby watched, he reparked the jumbo vehicle. (It's not so easy when you're accustomed to small cars and driving on the other side of the street.) Once inside, the couple enjoyed wheat grass shots. Nice that he turns up in unexpected places - not just The Ivy.
Victoria "Posh Spice" Beckham couldn't wait to get to LA to go house shopping and visit all the Abercrombie & Fitch stores she can find! Vicky's penchant for the moderately priced sportswear emporium is puzzling- it's about as opposite as you can get from John Galliano couture. We suspect the reason she's obsessed with this store is because they don't have them in Europe. It's strictly American. Posh just left the store at the Grove (the second A&F she's visited this week) where she reportedly stocked up on LA apparel for herself. More teensy tank tops, shorts and little T shirts. Afterward she hopped in that big black Escalade and took off.
