Even one of People's Hottest Bachelors can have an off-day in the looks department. "Pirates of the Caribbean" heartthrob Orlando Bloom's facial hair, combined with his cold weather apparel doesn't do him justice. Or is it just a bad camera angle?
Orlando Bloom had all the salesboys and girls swooning at Fred Segal in Santa Monica a few days ago. When he first ambled into the store in jeans, a t-shirt, and a hat pulled down low, nobody paid much attention. In fact, he had to hunt for an available salesperson. We were told he was "very polite and sweet" and WAY better looking in person. Orlando was friendly to all the people who assembled to ogle him and despite distractions, he bought an $1800 Hermes watch with a black band.
The Marie Antoinette premier party at Chateau Marmont was a huge success and the celebrity crowd ignored their diets and feasted on mountains of sweets - inspired by the movie. Revved up partiers couldn't help gossiping about the movie's star Kirsten Dunst and her mysterious love life. Since splitting with Jake Gyllenhaal, Kirstin is VERY low key about her personal life. The buzz of the party was that Kirsten and her Elizabethtown costar Orlando Bloom have resumed their romance. Fueling the party rumors was the fact that Orlando was there - but seen lurking behind trees and bushes most of the evening! The fact that he avoided Kirsten - and almost everyone else - but stayed at the event for a long time- seemed suspicious. But lately he's been seen openly hanging out with Penelope Cruz. Is she a decoy or the real thing?
Redondo Beach was up for grabs last week when Pirates of the Caribbean lowered their anchor there to film scenes for Pirates III. Actually the location boat was out in the ocean but the beach town was loaded with equipment trucks, huge trailers, and looky-loos. Everybody wanted a glimpse of Johnny Depp. And they got one. Each night after filming wrapped, Johnny showed up in the parking lot of Captain Kidd's fish restaurant where he posed for endless pictures with children and signed autographs. A restaurant employee was amazed "He was SO nice to everyone and spent hours with his fans." No sign of Orlando Bloom.
Nick Nolte, browsing in Malibu shops on an 85 degree day, wearing pants , a hawaiian shirt, bedroom slippers and a brown hooded velour bathrobe, accessorized with a bright orange purse hanging on a string around his neck that contained his credit cards. Nolte carried on a conversation with himself - there was no cellphone visible. He purchased several expensive beach towels...... Jason Lee, looking as scruffy and unshaven as his character Earl, standing in line at Hollywood's OSH to buy an electic drill.....Orlando Bloom, walking his dog in Runyon Canyon at dusk and yakking on the phone at the same time.... Marriage and a baby hasn't doused the flames of passion for Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams. Last week they went out on a "date" and shared a cozy booth at Holly's West. They chatted and laughed nonstop and only had eyes for each other - you'd think they'd just met....
A Pirates of the Caribbean setsider reveals that costars Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom are complete opposites: "Johnny - the SUPERSTAR- arrived at work every day without fanfare and personally greeted everyone. Very approachable. With Orlando it was always a major scene - like Eddie Murphy arriving on the set. An entourage of twenty surrounded the actor and big bodyguards protected him (from WHOM?) Orlando's assistant was always hovering with TWO cellphones - one for Orlando's girlfriend (Kate Bosworth) and the other for business calls. " Johnny was down to earth and hung out with the cast and crew between shots. Orlando was aloof and whisked away to his dressing room. Everybody loved Johnny, but Orlando was in his own world. " Imagine what Orlando will be like if he ever gets to be as big a star as Johnny!
