Each spring, Anna Wintour, the terrifying editor of Vogue, has an extravagant party - the Met's Costume Institute Gala - and everybody dresses to kill. This year Anna declared the theme was "superheroes" (whatever THAT means) and strongly advised invitees to dress accordingly. She ordered all her Vogue staffers to wear white or silver. Faced with this dilemma, stars' imaginations scattered in all directions.
Scarlett Johansson and Janet Jackson played it safe by wearing white. Scarlett is adorable in her "ballerina gone bad" outfit - especially since it's accessorized with her new engagement ring from Ryan Reynolds. Janet's dress is not that interesting or original but her skin looks gorgeous next to white.
This Olsen Twins photo is noteworthy most of all because they are BOTH SMILING! Ashley and Mary-Kate are starting to look less and less alike. We love the sheer frivolity of Eva Longoria's bold purple pleated silk gown with a train- now THAT'S a party dress!

This photo of Janet Jackson performing on Good Morning America is noteworthy because she's hauled out the "big pants" again. Whenever Janet's insecure about her weight she wears some form of these baggy trousers. These were obviously custom made because she has a little holder for the battery pack on her waist made of the same fabric as the pants.

We're surprised to see Janet Jackson so dressed DOWN for Benny Medina's fancy party this weekend. And it looks like she's sporting a new Tyra Banks hairdo.
Last time we looked, Jennifer Lopez was winning the "who can wear the biggest hoop earrings" contest - but Janet Jackson is the new title holder. Her earring is roughly comparable to the size of her boyfriend Jermaine Dupri's head. He IS kinda tiny. Janet looks pretty but nobody believes that's her own ponytail.
Looks like Janet Jackson has taken up the same hobby as Lindsay Lohan - eating - oops, we mean photography. Most people get in shape for the summer, others let themselves go. Janet's in Miami with her boyfriend Jermaine Dupri, and she doesn't give a hoot about her size. One of the reasons she and Jermaine have lasted so long together is because he never complains about her yo-yoing weight. Janet says he "loves her curves."
Michael Jackson took all that money he got from kids in Japan who paid to meet him and flew to London where he checked into the painfully expensive Jumeirah Carlton Tower Hotel under the name "Ms. Jackson" (We think he hoped to be mistaken for Janet.) He occupied the Presidential Suite (around $5000 per night) with his kids, but took up the entire top floor with his entourage, and brought ten beefy security guards to protect him and make sure no one came up in the elevators. He even brought his own waiter and didn't want any strangers near him. Hotel staffers were terrified of doing the wrong thing. And last we heard, Ms. Jackson didn't leave any tips.
Janet Jackson's relationship with Jermaine Dupri remains on thin ice. Since Janet's album fizzled and Jermaine left her record label, things haven't been the same. Now that Jermaine is working at Island Records, he and Janet have less in common. Jermaine had a big industry party at Xenii last week and Janet spent most of her evening alone in the VIP room while Jermaine was onstage working the mic. She looked annoyed and complained when the VIP room became really crowded. A friend remarked "Janet and Jermaine used to be very cozy, and he rarely left her side. Now there's distance." The friend said "If Jermaine could get Janet away from Virgin Records and signed on HIS Island label, they'd be much happier- but it's not likely to happen."
The spectacular failure of Janet Jackson's latest album is causing a rift in her relationship with Jermaine Dupri. Jermaine produced the album on the Virgin label and when it tanked, he quit in a rage - blaming the record company for not promoting the album properly. But Janet's still signed with the label and she feels abandoned with no one there to look out for her. "Watching Beyonce's CD climb the charts hasn't made Janet feel any better." an industry insider remarked. Janet has been very serious about Jermaine - she talks about marrying him and having kids. (He stuck by her through all her weight fluctuations.) But now she doesn't know where to turn - she's been getting advice from her old pals Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis and that makes Jermaine feel awful. Janet and Jermaine have been going out separately more than ever. They're trying to work it out and get through the holidays. But if they can't get past this huge failure, they'll probably split in February and announce it after The Grammys.
Our friend was a Le Deux one recent night when "all of a sudden around ten serious looking large bodyguards in dark suits walked in. They notified the management and immediately started checking out the premises. They cleared a large section of the room, rearranged tables, and set up ropes around the area. With all this preparation we thought the PRESIDENT was about to arrive! But in a few minutes, Janet Jackson and Jermaine Dupri walked in with a group of friends. They had everyone's attention as they sat down in their private area. At one point Janet must have told her security guy she was cold because she stood up and lifted her arms and HE PUT HER SWEATER ON FOR HER " Hey, isn't that Jermaine's job?
This FHM October layout of Janet Jackson is noteworthy because for decades she has refused to show her legs. Especially in person. She always covered her gams with pants, long skirts, or boots. Check her photographs. Plenty of sexy pictures featuring her cleavage and abs, but no legs. Early in her career she wore nothing but baggy pants and jeans. Nobody knows WHY she couldn't stand to show her legs. Apparently someone finally talked some sense into her and this picture is the result. Personally, we think her legs look fine, but the awkward pose doesn't do her justice.
It's starting to look like Janet Jackson's exhusband Rene Elizondo might have been telling the TRUTH when he claimed he did more for her career than anyone gave him credit for. Rene was the secret husband that Janet kept completely under wraps - this photo of his hands is one of the very few pictures ever taken of them together. But behind the scenes, Rene wrote songs, directed her videos, and helped produce her albums. Janet played down his involvement at the time but when they were together her career was red-hot. Her last megahit album, The Velvet Rope, was the last album Rene collaborated on. The three albums she's done since they divorced haven't been anywhere near as successful. The first single from her upcoming album, Call On Me , is already flatlining, and fans aren't thrilled by her confusing overproduced video. Whether Janet's new producer boyfriend Jermaine Dupri can match up to Rene, remains to be seen.
