Rene Elizondo might have been telling the TRUTH when he claimed he did more for her career than anyone gave him credit for. Rene was the secret husband that Janet kept completely under wraps - this photo of his hands is one of the very few pictures ever taken of them together. But behind the scenes, Rene wrote songs, directed her videos, and helped produce her albums. Janet played down his involvement at the time but when they were together her career was red-hot. Her last megahit album,
The Velvet Rope, was the last album Rene collaborated on. The three albums she's done since they divorced haven't been anywhere near as successful. The first single from her upcoming album,
Call On Me , is already flatlining, and fans aren't thrilled by her confusing overproduced video. Whether Janet's
new producer boyfriend Jermaine Dupri can match up to Rene, remains to be seen.

People love to attack the Damita Jo album as a flop without acknowledging why it flopped.There is no mention of the Super Bowl backlash or her mysterious disappearance from MTV, VH1 and even BET.

The same can be said of this era.COM is hardly flop and has flourished where it has been allowed to be seen.

It has been played on BET and r&b radio stations and it has been one of the channels most requested videos and is a Top 10 hit on the r&b charts.
Were MTV, VH1, and most main pop stations were to play this song and video, I am sure we would see the same reaction there.
Renee was Janet's partner and did his part here and there, but like Jimmy jam and Terry Lewis said, he was never in the studio with them and Janet writing one lyric or producing one song.
FYI, Janet has had 2 #1 singles and a successful tour since breaking up with Renee.

ROFL - Rene doesn't HAVE to do anything these days, Kelly. Divemouth publishing was backing him in his tell-all book on Janet. Of course, this helped him in the divorce to get the $15 million, the 2000 Mercedes SL600, plus the then-valued $8 million Malibu home.
I'll grant you that there's still the "pay-for-play", but inthe majority of times when formerly major recording stars records flop, it's because they stink, and even Janet and Michael aren't immune from that.
She never really had any musical talent....no voice, no songwriting ability. But her producers and video directors made her a big seller. I say she's made enough money and time to put her out to pasture.

Janet Jackson was never a singer, I never could understand what the hell she was saying in her songs. It's amazing how you can make so much money as a singer and can't sing worth a shit! I don't even listen to R&B anymore I turned totally to Jazz where I can here talent.
It is amazing how people who will never have as much worth as janet or the talent can write articles. I think in some part it is jealousy and hate. It is amazing how America is, Madonna who consistently have flop albums is praised by critics and who has never matched her previous successes, this is never mentioned. Not to hate on Madonna because I truly like her; but America is still so bias and racist.
janet looks and sounds good, she has the body of a 20 yr. old.i say she worked for her money,and she deseves to keep it.she must be doing something right,she`s still rich,and she slept with justin timberlake,and who cares if you think shes old,the rest of america doesnt.she hasnt had that much plastic surgery(she aint white), she dont need it.you guys wish you look like her and could have any man you wanted!turn green haters.
