Filed Under: 3:10 to Yuma > Gay
3:10 to Yuma was way better than we expected - especially for a western. It's an entertaining movie and -guess what - there's a whole GAY way to interpret it. This was pointed out to us by Norman Korpi, and we must have been blind not to notice.( If you haven't seen the movie, read no further lest we spoil it for you.) Russell Crowe plays the notorious outlaw gang leader Ben Wade who robs stagecoaches. His bloodthirsty right hand man Charlie, played by Ben Foster, (a curly haired slim guy who always wears a tight little stylish jacket and chaps) will kill ANYBODY and do ANYTHING for his boss. According to Norman, they're a couple, and Charlie is hopelessly in love with Ben. Enter poor but idealistic rancher Dan, played by Christian Bale, and you have a love triangle. Gradually Ben Wade falls for rancher Dan and he ends up killing Charlie. We MUST see the movie again to catch all the gay clues, As Norman gleefully sums it up "Yuma is gayer than Brokeback Mountain."

Let people analyze the film the way they want. Not everyone is looking for subtexts. Just because an orange is a fruit, doesn't mean it's gay.

Christian Bale is outstanding in this movie.
Its a remake, you people need to get over yourselves. It's a good old fashioned, shoot 'em up western. Peter fonda is also in it. Enjoy it! Its magnificent.

Then Chester must have been Matt Dillions lover, if this idiot Norman Korpi is reading 'gay' into the storyline. There are no men kissing, no brokeback mountain stuff happening.

Norman is correct,,this movie has a man love triangle undercurrent running thru it. Charlie is in obsessive love with Ben Wade,,,Ben Wade seduces men and women and feels the need to seduce christian bale the rancher,,,He likes a challenge.

Gay men will understandably always look for gay 'clues' in everything because it makes them feel secure and validated, although they won't admit that's why they're doing it. Gay men could find a gay message in Jane Eyre if they wanted to.

Ben Foster, the actor who played Charlie Prince (the one in love apparently) actually confirmed that his character did what he did purely out of love. There was strong sexuality that they wanted to deal with with the character.

What I don't understand is why so many people are having a cow (hur hur hur. Get it?) over someone pointing out (OBVIOUS) homoeroticism in a movie. It's everywhere, kids, time to get used to it.
(Ben Wade/Charlie Prince OTP!)
